burned fuse radio does not shut off
Hello, I am new to the forum and need at least one problem area addressed: The #1 fuse , left side of driver on dash, burns immediately when the key is turned on. without turning the key on, the seat works great. What can cause that?
the radio goes on , no sound, antenna goes up....still no sound. Cannot shut radio off with the button. All shuts down when key is not on. Bad radio on/off knob??
many thanks....looks to be a great forum!

Welcome to the forum!
Don't know 'nuffin 'bout radios but blowing seat fuses is a fairly common problem caused by the the seat scuffing and cutting into the wiring with seat movement. There was some acknowledgement of the issue in the form of a Technical Service Bulletin on the subject but I cannot locate it at the moment. Pull the connector from the seat module and look for breaks in the wiring insulation under the seat. The seat system is obviously fed from two power sources with fuse 1 being the 'on' source.
You will need to download the Jaguar Technical Information System (JTIS) sooner or later. It is available free in the FAQ sticky near the top. Here is a link to other information on the seat motors and operation thanks to our JTIS librarian Jim Lombardi.

Test Point has nailed the seat issue for you and WhiteXJR's suggestion of a new headunit is likely to be the solution.
Many people have antenna problems so you're lucky this works! It's worth checking the radio isn't stuck in the wrong mode before replacing it. Your's is a 97 (right?) so it could have the early head unit with the four way flipper control:
or the later type with buttons:
Did you get the Audio Handbook with the car?
Does the display show any info?
Does it cycle between Radio / Tape / CD?
Do the steering wheel buttons operate?
The ON/OFF button doesn't actually make a click when pressed to power on and off but there is a definite resistance you should be able to feel if the button is OK. It rotates for volume adjustment. On the later units, you can keep turning the control either way with no stop and I think the very early ones were the same but it's been a few years and several different cars since I had that type and I could be mistaken.

What is meant by "head unit"? Is that the entire radio? How do I check other flippers as noted? The radio stays in the same band always (like it is stuck there) and has lights but no sound or ability to change channels or bands. The on/off buttom does not seem to have any resistance (cannot tell when it is on or off). The radio does not respond to any of the buttons.

Hello all,
The seat is now working! I have no idea what the problem was other than moving some wires, checking all plug ins and spraying WD-40 in each socket(better to have used di-electric grease)
The radio is still stuck at 1130 AM, lights on, no noise, cannot shut off, antenna works, tape does not....have to try CD but assuming they will not work either as no button when touched has any reaction of any kind.
Many thanks
PS WHERE IS SPELL CHECK??????

Radio is on and the display illuminated but NO button has any reaction? That's more than just a possible ON/OFF button fault. Pressing the four-way tuning button either up or down should put the tuner in 'seek' mode. If it was just a volume control fault, at least it would move off the set station.
Check the harness multiplug at the back (J gate surround and centre console have to come out to be able to remove the radio). If this is secure and there's no breaks in the wiring, you're looking at finding a replacement unit.

You can soon tell. After a power disconnection, the set displays 'Code_ _ _ _' and nothing more until the correct 4-digit code is entered on the keypad.
