Default Which to buy? High mileage XKR or low mileage XK8?

Hi all. Looking to buy an 06 XK, but wondering which would be a better buy. '06 XKR Jumanj blue, gray leather with 128k miles for $11k. '06 XK8 black, black leather with $60k miles for $13k. Both are convertibles, both carbon fiber package. Is the XKR worth the higher mileage? Thanks!

The grass is always greener. I often wish I had the power of the R version, but I've read many who state no need no desire for it. How important is it for you? Start with that question, it could shut the decision down ot it could take you to the next level - cost to maintain.

Default How good are you at home DIY

London,

That’s a nice dilemma to have.

390bhp for the XKR is lovely if you want a faster sporty car. But it’ll come at a cost - lots of more difficult maintenance on an old car. If you can DIY at your garage, go for the XKR. Comparing mileage right now isn’t the issue as most maintenance items needed now will be age related rather than usage.

More important is whether the PO has a good service history on the car. Some definite things to look out for esp. on the XKR.

If the majority of your car’s maintenance is to done by a professional garage, go for the XK8 as it’ll be cheaper and less of a head ache.

apples and oranges. drive both. But the xkr seems too pricey with those miles. Of course you should be able to get many more out of it as long as the servicing has been kept up.
Some prefer the xk. I prefer the xkr.

Thank you all for your input. At this point I believe the higher mileage could be an advantage for the age, assuming the car has been properly maintained. XKR seems to be a better driving experience and maintenance costs are not a huge concern for me.

The mileage would not bother me as long as it was well maintained. I personally went for the XK8 because I use the car as a GT. My wife and I go on holidays and drive for days. It's the best gt car I have ever driven. Do you want a 'sports' car or a "GT". ask yourself that. Both have the same top speed but the R gets there much quicker

I would say more red apple vs green apple, they are similar in many ways and different in some. apples and oranges is xk8 vs bmw 528..

test drive well sorted examples of both and decide what you prefer before mileage and condition become factors.
in my case with the open car, the quiet sound sold me. plus it is fun to push the NA V8. just a taste thing, nothing more.
remember you have to like it, and forget about investment value.

When I first wanted a X100 I did not really want an XKR. In fact I was not sure at all what the difference was. I certainly had no craving for that extra power. However following advice given on a few forums in the end I plumped for an XKR. So very very glad I did. I love my little car and never regretted having an XKR.

So my vote is for the XKR. No matter which one you go for its going to cost. So you may as well have the one thats more fun and will retain its value better. XKR!
