hey doug, im glad youre happy with your decision. Like i said in my statement it all depends on the actual car itself, no 2 are the same. As well it also depends on the buyer. The most important thing is youre happy and after years price you paid wont make a difference! I hope you didnt think I was going along with the BS against you. Just smile and remember how much you love your car when people want to start petty arguments that are new lol

Seismic, I probably paid too much for my Jag AND traveled 1100 miles to do it but we had a hoot and an adventure AND fulfilled a long anticipated want. The nice things is, being in a place where Jags are a bit scarce, everybody I know probably thinks I paid $10000 more than actually did.
Kyle, you also have to remember that not all of us are in the good old USA. Jags may cost a bit more when the supply is not as plentiful. Ask our members from Eastern Europe...talk about depreciation, what was a new XKR worth in Australia?

I'll probably kick myself for getting sucked into this stupid youpaidtoomuch youpaidtoolittle debate. If time and location are no object and/or you are willing to buy site unseen, sure you can research forever and travel from auction to auction or take chances on ebay and perhaps save some money. In my case, I keep cars for many years and tend to get attached to them, and I did not have the time or inclination to auction shop or travel across country to look at cars. That being said, after looking locally (and even studying prices beyond local as well as ebay and other sources) for at least 6 months, I came across a private seller 2 miles from my house who was selling for about $10K less than similar vintage/mileage/condition vehicles were selling for at various dealers. I was quite satisfied at the purchase I made and do not feel 'suckered'.

Well whats done is done now Doug. You overpaid 8K at the time of purchase now in Novemeber you overpaid by 14K due to 6K depreciation in the last 3 months. Enjoy your ride man. I dont have a dealers license so I cannot go to a car auction. But since their is info such as Manhiem Auction Reports where dealers go buy their cars every week, and Galves.com which averages out the auction sales you can be more educated in car buying and really hammer out the best deals. Heres some tips, like I said before I get the Manhiem reports so I know which car the dealer have for sale and how much they paid. I use Galves as a tool for the averages. Then when I find a car within a 2k-3k parameters of auction price I hammer the price down to rock bottom at or near auction price. I never pay no more than $500 above what cars sold for at auction. Private parties are the best to target bc its very easy to haggle down plus they are more vulnerable when selling. I rarely buy from a dealer,90% of the time I buy through private party. Also if your saving 6-7K in purchasing a car at auction price its best to travel at least 1500 miles and drive the car back home. You can find at least4 great deals on the particular car you want to buy per month but you must be patient. Never buy a convertible in Summer and Fall. Always buy during winter months Jan-Mar, everyone wants to sell there convertible especially when its cold and snow. But anyways Doug how do you like the XKR ? Is it reliable besides the problems you had ? Does your car have Factory Warranty ? How does the Jag Dealer treat it under factory. I know Select Edition is a pain to deal with.

more vulnerable when selling? what are you trying to take advantage of people? You're coming across like a scumbag.
and he doesnt care how much he "overpaid" you must be stupid because he said he doesnt give a f*ck, he likes it. its pretty much your opinion, he could list the car tomorrow for $50k and a neighbor of his might like it and pay asking price. you arent selling the car to the whole market youre selling it to 1 buyer.
as you can tell i have dealings in the car business myself, ive never heard of "galves.com", their website sucks it looks like a kindergartner made it. are you sure you dont work for these people?

Hey Kyle...
What kind of cars have you had...Have you ever had a Black STR with a headlight problem?..I hear that was a big problem getting an aftermarket warranty to pay for it...So I stay away from them dogs..I really like Benz though, how about you?, ever had a Benz?
Just wondering, you seem to be in the know as far as how to buy cars..So I figure you know all about their problems too, and what to look for in a good deal..
Thanks for helping out here with your wisdom and experience...Do you know where I can get a good deal on some wheels for an X type?..I like the chrome kind, but easy to clean..![Big Grin](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Thanks.

Yeah mostprivate parties in general are more vulnerable when selling at least the ones I dealt with. I got some crazy deals bc I convinced them the car is much less then what they priced it at. Its not taking advantage of people, its called great negotiation skills. I dont work for the car industry but enjoy driving nice luxury cars for free and dumping them 4 months later laughing at depreciation bc I dont have to deal with it but pass it to someone else. As far as Galves I think they the best guide and more acurate and averages out Manhiem prices better than any other guide. Blackbook sucks and I did compare it with Galves. Also all the dealers in the Northeast uses galves.

Seismic.........There's a world of difference in buying a car to keep for a few months and then try to sell on maybe get your money back, maybe even make a little and buying a car because you truly love and appreciate it and want to own it for the next 2-3 years.
I'm convinced you got a good deal, however, as long as you happy, then whether I or anyone else for that matter agrees is neither here nor there.
I've saw your car and its a stuning example appreciated by its owner........nice one.
Kyleport - as a newbie, just a little advice. Even after a dozen or so posts its alreasy apparent you're all about ME ME ME.......llok at me, look at my car, look at how much I save etc etc etc.
The rest of you are idiots and pay too much for your cars and don't have a clue....lol
In my experience the ones that usually shout about it the loudest are the ones that eitherdon't have it or don't have a clue. As previously posted - why are you one here supposedly asking for advice if you know it all?
My advice - If you want to remain a part ofthis forum for any length of time I'd tone it down a little and be a little more humble. People here don't suffer attitude for long and you'll alienate yourself very very quickly.
Ifyou got a great deal by all means shout about it and good for you.
If you want advice, ask and I'm sure people will be happy to help if you ask in the right manner.

But anyways do XKR Convertible owners like their car? Is it reliable besides the problems you had ? Does your car have Factory Warranty ? How does the Jag Dealer treat it under factory ? How does Factory Warranty compare to Select Edition Warranty ? Do they charge diagnostic fees under factory warranty at Jag Dealer ?I know Select Edition is a pain to deal with when I had an S-Type R with headlight problems. But I am willing to take a risk on a XKR for a couple months, just hope it doesnt cost me $ for repairs if factory warranty doesnt cover it. Please advise.

Man I can't believe he's not in jail???[&:][&:][&:]
I thought all of those people had him nailed to the freaking wall!
Seismic I assume you already realize what was going on with the poster. Don't feel bad about paying too much for your car as he's already paid too little for a few different cars and has done nothing but complain about them (if he's really ever owned them in the first place???)
