Cabin filter?

Brutal (world-class Jaguar tech in Houston) says that only the 2007-and-newer XK models have cabin filters. As a result, I have not looked for one on ours. Thinking about it, I've concluded that it would be fairly dumb for the engineers to put a cabin filter in a convertible....

Hello, I have a 2001 XKR and about 3 years ago I went to my repair shop and had a complaint that my A/C was not blowing hard enough and that it had changed over the years. (We all know that the Jaguar XK8's and XKR's) don't blow worth a s**t even new from the factory but this was getting seemingly worse even for my car. The shop called me a few hours later and told me that my vents were most likely clogged because I had no cabin filter in place!
I told him the car did not have a cabin filter. He said funny thing is there is a place for a filter.
I called jaguar people I knew and they said that there was not a cabin filter for the 2001 XKR.
I called my shop back and told them that, they said they had ordered a filter and had placed one in the spot for air intake and that it fit the way it was supposed to.
They also suggested I do a A/C vent cleaning which was to spray in a foam like material and it actually expands and goes thru-out the vent system and then suck it out and it cleans things out, they did it twice and my A/C blower worked much better and smelled cleaner and fresher. They said they got quite a bit of dirt and mold out of the vent system. They also said this was normal.
My Jaguar dealer still swears there is no cabin filter but yet a $85.00 Jaguar cabin filter fits nice and snug. I am due to change the cabin filter this year, since I usually have the A/C in recirculation mode and do not use outside air a lot so I get the most from the blower I only change every couple of years.
The filters location is in the engine compartment under the plastic cowl, the wipers need to be removed to get to the area.
Have not had a problem since.
Yes it does seem a bit of a oxymoron to place a cabin filter in a convertible car.
But it nice to have, when the allergy season is upon us, you just put the top up and your allergies improve when driving around town.
Happy motoring...

The pollen filter was an option you could get form the factory, and also as a retrofit
Here some more info:

@Vettegood,
You might want to check with the IDS if the cabinfiler option is selected, this way the blower will turn faster to overcome the extra resistance of the filter.

Is the proper name IDS cabinfiler option?
Is it possible to change myself or is this a dealer only option or selection?
Thanks and
Happy Motoring...
