Default Camshaft Position Sensor

Have codes P0340 and P0341, camshaft position sensor bank 1, and camshaft position sensor wiring harness. Replaced them with a camshaft position sensor from Parts Geek that cost only $35 and was made in China. OEM is nearly $200. Cleared message but after about 5 minutes to an hour the messages reappear. I have soldered the replacement CMP wires and there is power to the sensor. Do I need to go OEM? This is a 2000 XK8.

The consensus here is generally to avoid PartsGeek. You could try a breaker or online - there is a crossover with the X308 so there should be a good few about. Autoreserve has a pair for around $40 if you're not in a desperate rush:

Shame they're handed else I'd have suggested swopping it with the other bank.

Has the cam cover for that side been removed & replaced recently?

Yes, the cam cover was recently replaced to install a new gasket.

There is a 'special-bolt' in the position near the CMPS for the cam cover fasteners.

I replace cam cover gaskets and find the bolts not put back in correctly from previous repairs but never had a DTC because of it.(but you never know?)

Default Bolt near CMP

Thanks! I will check that. Guess it is non-magnetic.

I was wrong when said there is power to the cmp. Is only 2.2 mv. I will look it up but I believe it is supposed to be 4.5 volts or higher.

They do seem to be magnetic to some extent (I tried with a magnet), and they are slightly shorter. They are the only ones which are not captive in their spacer. See this post of BobRoy's:

It is possible that a longer bolt could impale the sensor:

I'd expect no or very little voltage across the sensor with the motor not running. They are similar devices to the ABS sensors.
You might be able to read something on a multimeter set to a low AC volts range with the motor running. The Electrical Guide states this: 0.7 – 1 VAC @ 1000 RPM = 43 Hz; 2000 RPM = 72 Hz
