We all seem to agree - no sitting on a Jag top.
During the last year (1976) of the massive Cadillac Eldorado convertible, Cadillac offered a re enforced fiberglass tontau (sp) cover that was listed as (?) the 'parade option'. It was only available as an option on the 200 white bi centennial drop tops made in '76. Back in the day we used to call the option the 'bimbo pad'. You could park some serious beef atop that thing. By the way, dignitaries always look better riding in the back of pick up trucks. Keep them away from your Jag.

Thanks for all the feedback
So apparently the answer is a resounding "no"...
I didn't want to give too many details away as there is a limited number of slots, but the parade is the parade lap of the MotoGP race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin and the dignitaries would be MotoGP riders.
It would have been cool, but not $1,000+ to replace my top cool.
It's sponsored by BMW so they may only allow BMW convertibles to destroy their tops anyway...

Back in the early 80's I fashioned a plywood platform and cushion under the tonneau cover along with an extra plastic sheet for the feet. I would try the same for my XKR if I saw that there was a need.
This is the only pic I could find, I apologize for the quality (Christmas 1984).

I had this same thought today. If not the Fourth, I'll probably 'volunteer' for the Christmas parade this year. Am also thinking cheerleaders, petite women, et al. of which it usually is anyway. Step away, mayor! I like the reinforcing idea. A slab of MDF board cut to size with some foam padding under the leather cover would suffice for smaller folks I would think.
Also keep the road surface in mind! Any butt becomes a lot heavier on that top assembly for 1 second if you cross a dip at a good clip! Slow and flat cruising, it may be just fine.

That $10,000 cost to replace the convertible top resulted from sourcing the parts and having the work done through a Jaguar dealership. The cost would be reduced considerably by going through an independent ragtop repair shop. Probably less than half the dealership cost. Still expensive for sure, but a much better alternative....
