Carpet removal XK8 to enable footwell welding RESOLVED
Hi, I have to weld some new plates into the Floor pan of my XK8 I will obviously need to remove the Carpets?.. Does anyone know the Secret of how to remove them without destroying anything important like the aluminum sill scuff panels? Thanks John

The fixings for the Door Sill Treadplate (item 1) are concealed under the 'Jaguar - XK8' Insert (item 2):
The insert is glued in position. To remove it, warm gently to soften the adhesive and carefully start to prise up one end with a wooden spatula or thin plastic blade.
Once the end is lifted, insert a length of nylon fishing line and free the remainder of the adhesive using a sawing action on the line.
Take great care because it's very easy to distort the Insert.
Once the Insert is removed, release the three Paint Clearing Screws beneath to free the Treadplate.

Seats and centre console out as well, when you lift the seats out pay extra attention to how you are doing it, very easy to catch the door and rear b post trim panel...
Also if you are interested I know a guy who is now making repair sections for the footwells to OE look with all the ribs but of course without the plate that caused all the probs in the first place!

It only took Jaguar three XJ saloon models and the XK8 4.0 litre to solve the rubbish plastic shifter surround design.

Does anyone have any recommendations for someone that can do the welding as well?
This job is on my cars to do list as well, and after my problems with mechanical bits, i wouldn't fancy having to use a welding gun.
They'd have to evacuate the area before letting me near it.
I'm also wondering how a guy named Lance with identical email addresses, moved from Kings Lynn to Cornwall so fast
He must have an XKR.
