Default CD Changer, needs repair

Looking for opinions: I have the stock cd changer in the boot and it has stopped working. audio issues are fine this is a mechanical issue with the changer itself. Now common sense tells me the way to go is somehow install a connection that will allow me to play tunes via an Ipod and use the car's audio system. However, I'm one of those geeks that wants things to work. The sound quality from the player was fine when it was working. Therefore what is the consensus of opinion here? Is it worth the money to have repaired? There is only one place that does the work on this old technology and that's 60 miles away. I do see replacements from various wrecking yards in the region and at least they guarantee function, but that's always a chance. Mine either won't play or it will come on for about 10 seconds and then the message is "no cd". Which means there is a problem with the device that selects the cd from the 6-disc cartridge. Looking for some guidance here. I don't think there is anything out there new that would fit in the space and interact with the car's electronics.

Here are a couple of threads that outline the repairs for the CD Changer.
Also, they have the info if you want to DIY.

You can repair it yourself fairly easily... just follow this LINK.

Maybe use some thread-locker (loctite) on the screw before you tighten it and it should last... mine worked fine after I fixed it but over time it loosened again.

I suggest you take photos of the rubber mounts before disassembly. It will greatly simplifiy your reassembly. The postion/orientation is not obvious once they are removed.
