CD Changer Question

CD Changer Question
Hi--I did the intro-post a few weeks ago, but this is my first "regular" post.
I own a 2000 XKR with the CD Changer in the trunk. Worked fine until a couple of days ago when I got a "No Disk" message on the radio. I have several cartridges and tried them all but none will play. The radio and cassette player work fine. I went to a couple of Stereo shops to see if they could just replace the whole radio with something with a CD player build in and they all told me that there were aftermarket options for this car.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the changer to work? Thanks for your help--love this forum. Since this is my first Jag, I been reading it everyday.

Hi Tom C. Base on your description of the cd changer problem, what I would suggest u shoukd do initially is to disconnect your cd changer and try cleaning the laser lens. I guess your changer has not been serviced for some time. Use a slightly water damped ear bud and gently wipe off the lens surface then wipe dry with other side of the bud. Usually this fix the problem. Give it try and let me know.

Tom - That is a typical problem with the CD changer and there is a fix for it... it does require removing the CD player, taking it apart, loosening a screw on a worm gear, pushing it over and re-tightening... it's not a hard job just a little time consuming. I will look for the thread with the write-up, but one word of caution - you want to tighten the screw but not OVER tighten it like I did
The first time I fixed it the CD player worked fine for a while but then the problem came back - I SHOULD have used some lock-tite on the threads. In the process of re-tightening the screw again I was a little too aggressive and trashed the plastic piece - not good, but it did push me to get a new stereo since my old one had issues anyways.
I will repost when I find the thread with the "fix"...

Another Possible Resolution
I also had the same error. I didn't find the repair method suggested by blindside, it may well lead to a more permanent fix. But I found other suggestions here and elsewhere that one of the drive gears for the mechanism would "stick" and just needed a little poke to make work again.
The thread linked here describes my experience with it. Almost two months on, I haven't had a repeat (crossed fingers).
