What is the function of the vented dish between the radio and shifter in the center console? I'm looking for a place to put a USB outlet and this is a candidate. Are there sensors or electricals under it? The vents imply some sort of cabin temp function but I can't find anything about it in the manual. I'm referring to item 21 in the Jag manual that is not a switch, it is some kind of stepped and vented container.

You could put it there but probably better looking to put in the console. I just put a low profile charger in the lighter socket.

 

In a convertible there is a switch located there for the top. In a coupe it is just a coin holder with nothing of significance underneath.

 

I know I've seen the Coin Tray mentioned in one of the Driver's Handbooks but can't find it. Here's the relevant extract from the Parts Catalogue:





Nothing directly beneath it to worry about other than harness runs but clearance could be restricted:

Thanks for this everyone. I'm looking at the console so I can see the voltage display on the USB outlet. But if clearance is an issue it might end up inside the console. Here is a pic of the plug:
