Default Changing belts

Hello, is it easier to remove the fans for better access when changing the belts. Many thanks. Anthony.

It sure was on my wife's 2006 XK8. My monster-sized hands had no way of getting down in there to change the serpentine belt if I had not removed the radiator fan assembly first....

Gents if you had loaned the proper tool from JCNA you need not disconnect the electricals or remove the radiator fan. Global number 303-D116 or JD 230. But you must be a JCNA member or a Coventry Foundation patron to loan--yes loan no cost except shipping. It allows removal of the belt in a few mins. without removing anything. A waterpump may be done within one hour with the tool.

Global number 303-D116 or JD 230.

Is that the flat bar with the 1/2 square drive to engage the tensioner?

No point ranting on about people who are not members of the Coventry foundation if you dont give the details of how to join.
I have been on this forum every day for 18 months and only this week have you popped up .
The only Coventry foundation I know of is the one that runs the two private schools in Coventry .

Amazon carries a nice kit that has essentially the same tool included. $55

GEARWRENCH 15 Piece Ratcheting Serpentine Belt Tool Set - 3680D https://a.co/d/8GyJtT7

Z

PS while wasting time on the internet I came across this nice list of Jaguar special tools and their part numbers:

Pistnbroke who is ranting? Simply put if you are not in North America it is not your issue. Here are the links www.jcna.com or coventryfoundation.org. This is a North American offer. No use to you so perhaps the JDHT offers a tool loan! This was for the NA folks. And to Motorcarman Yes with the proper offset to clear!

it takes a grand total of 2 minutes to remove the fan assembly if the nuts don’t spin out on you

i actually cut out the wings the bolts attach to on any cars i service you don’t need them

Pistonbroke as a further discussion why do you think that a resource that has been made to North American market folks is a rant? Surely as the home of Jaguar cars and Churchill tools you could establish a similar program. We serve NA which is Canada, the US, and Mexico. What does the JDHT or other organizations in the UK provide for you. That sir is a rant! Would we loan tools back to the UK--sure if a borrower was a member of JCNA or the Coventry Foundation. The shipping costs might be prohibitive but we would loan!

Piston forgot the JDC and the JEC--do they offer this service?

It appears to be, Bob.
Here is a link to my 2016 post of my homemade dual end wrench to remove both belts. It also stores two bolts for putting the bonnet in the much needed service position.
I have used it a couple or three times since.

Perhaps you should re name yourself Coventry Foundation USA or put your location in the panel top right or certainly give a link in your profile.
Did eventually track you down at

Coventry Foundation | Preserving Jaguar® History…

Thanks for the suggestion but as we serve all of North America that just would not fit. Although some think of the USA as NA we do have members and Patrons in Canada and Mexico as well as the islands, As to location we maintain two research library facilities and tool loan programs--one on the east coast and one in the west to reduce shipping costs of the bulkier and heavy tools. In addition we host and administer the British Sports Car hall of fame in Virginia. The tool in this discussion fits easily in a shipping tube and has been loaned out many times. While an 'official" tool its number and mfn suggest it was an afterthought but a good one.

I changed my belt without removing anything but the belt. The hard part was figuring out the routing. Best to find a diagram or make one before you take it off. It might seem intuitive, but it's amazing how many wrong ways there are !

Jimmy it is a much more challenging operation on the 'R' versions.

Fitted the belts yesterday in what i thought turned out to be quite a straightforward job. Two pairs of hands is the way to go when wrestling the cooling fans out. They were removed without disconnecting any pipe work, and the job completed in an hour 1/2. Very happy.
