While completing refurbishing all the plastic parts for my cooling system, I noticed a broken plastic hose. My first thought that it was a wiring harness, but soon realized that it was the engine breather hose. Can't figure out why it would be a cheap piece of plastic instead of a regular vacuum hose. Two questions here. First, can I just replace it with a regular vacuum hose, and second, where is the other end connected? Going through all my PDF files I am not able to find a drawing. I am guess it might be the throttle body. I am sure others have had to replace it.
The infamous part-load breather. Breaks if you sneeze too hard, I'm afraid. It is (2) here:
and tees off the throttle body before ending up at the purge valve, which I think is in the LHS wheel well on later cars.
Presumably it's convoluted plastic so that it doesn't go flat under vacuum.
It's not horribly expensive to replace (part # is AJ84880), although I used fuel line (without subsequent issue) as the dealer didn't have one in stock.
The connectors are disconnected by squeezing the ring:
and pulling, but the one on the TB can be a bit of a bear as it's not too easy to get to without dismantling obstructions. If you're lucky, there may be a plastic 'C' shaped tool on it which makes removal easier:
Michael, thanks for the diagrams. I was able to find the hose on Ebay this morning for $33. I think I will go the vacuum hose or gas line instead. Touch it and it crumbles. Irony of this was replacing all that plastic on the cooling system only to crumble along on this. Thanks again!
