The Advance Auto Parts website indeed claims that this $95 brake pedal switch will fit my wife's 2006 XK8. Has anyone actually purchased one and installed it? If so, can you confirm that it 1) was indeed an exact fit onto the existing metal bracket and 2) worked perfectly after it was installed?

Jaguar's part no. for this switch is LJB6420BB. The photo of the switch on the Advance Auto Parts website shows part no. LNB6420BB....

 

The picture shows the part with the short pig tail, which is for the XJ, I believe.

I did order the part that came up in the search (Part No. S42007), and was advertised as an exact match for my 2003 XK8. The part that came had the long pigtail, and fitted the car exactly as the old part. The error "Cruise not available, check bulbs" has never come back.

PS: the part came WITH the bracket.

That's good to know. Sure beats paying nearly $150 from the other sources out there....

I got my repaired brake pedal switch back from my EE friend last Wednesday evening. He replaced both microswitches and re-soldered every solder point on the circuit board. Now it's a matter of convincing my wife to cram herself upside-down into the drivers floorboard and feed the new switch up into position while I pull the bracket through with monofilament fishing line from underneath the hood. We did this the first time back in October 2012 when her factory switch failed. She remembers it all too well and continues to feed me every excuse she can dream up to avoid having to do this job again even though it is her car, not mine. But I don't blame her - she is no circus contortionist and neither am I....

I hope to convince her to help me with this job tomorrow because I want to see if my friend's switch repair efforts indeed did the trick....

 

I liked the discounted price so tried to order from Advance and--after filling out all the order data--eventually figured out that the part is not available. :<

I remember I had to try a few times over the course of a couple of weeks for the order to go through. The price changed over time, as well as whatever coupon codes were made available. It still remained an OK deal, though. I suspect it is another facet of our cars being in a market of low supply and low demand...

 

Jon89: The last time I removed and replaced the brake switch assembly our 06 XK8, I did it alone.
Two hints here: 1) removed the driver's seat. This is actually the most difficult part as that seat is heavy! 2) After you are in position, start the engine and depress the brake pedal, then put the switch assembly into place and let the brake pedal up.
The switch assembly will stay in place as long as the brake pedal is not pressed; just get back out and put the two nuts on.


Then of course put the seat back in.....did I mention that the seat is heavy!!

I indeed took the drivers seat out of the car last time and will do so again. No way I'm doing this job alone with my monster-sized hands. This job goes so much easier with two people participating. We were going to do it this afternoon but we're getting some much-needed rain now. Maybe tomorrow....

 

I replaced my switch by myself. I removed the switch from the bracket and replaced just the switch. Never had done one before and I saw no reason to replace the bracket as well. I simply pressed the bracket to one side and once the switch was on, I pressed the pedal with the engine running and bent the bracket back into place. 2 hours one beer!

 

I too had the error message "Check rear lights" and "Cruise control disabled". It turned out that one of the metal hinges on the micro switches had snapped off. A replacement of the two micros switches (Omron ones, see Jimas post on page 2) and it was all working fine. Each micro switch cost 98 pence so fixed for under two pounds.

 

I had the same experience The brake light switch is the fault. You can repair the switch by changing a micro Sw or replace the assembly

 

I had the same experience. I purchased a new switch on e-bay and it fixed it. Standing on my head under the dash to replace the switch with my son holding the brake pedal down from the passenger seat was the hardest parts. Putting the screws back thru the fire wall from the inside was a challenge. The cruse worked fine with the new switch.

 

I ended up having a local indy shop replace mine, with switch sourced from Jaguar. Total cost was about $333 and well worth it to not have to do it myself. The necessary contortions might kill me! I kept the old switch and plan to have it rebuilt, for future need.

I had the Check rear lights & Cruise not available warning
I ordered 2 micro switches (D2HWA211D OMRON) from arrow.com Total:$2.49 with shipping :-) (Thanks Jima! POST )
Replaced them in the old brake switch and the problem has disappeared.
Required a little solder work to remove and replace, but the biggest challenge is still getting the brake switch re-installed behind the brake pedal.
