Cigar lighter power option

Cigar lighter power option
2001 XK8.
I would like to connect a solar trickle charger to the vehicle by way of the cigar lighter outlet without leaving my keys in the ignition. I have the connector for it.
I am sure it's possible to have the cigar lighter power outlet live when the ignition switch is off. Is it a difficult to change? Can anyone give me a step by step?
Many thanks,
Alan

I've been told that leaving the keys in the ignition prevents the car from going to sleep and causes a draw on the battery which may be as much or more than the solar charger.
If it was me I'd put a quick connect directly to the battery.
As for the cigar lighter being live with the ignition off. Fuse 14 in the passenger side fuse fuse box controls the cigar lighter. You would need to find an always on source of battery power under the console, should not be to hard as the main wiring hardness from rear to front passed thru under the console.
