Default Understanding part numbers - a tip

I learned on this forum that regarding part number identification you can swap a "later" alpha numeric part with an "earlier" one but not the opposite.

Thus, an "AA" designated part could sub for a "AB", but a "AB" would not replace an "AA" labeled part number.

In other words, most parts are backward compatible.

Hope this helps.

Yes I would think so to but I don't think it's right to gamble with another owners money, $150 is a lot to shell out without trying it first.

Smile Hard Starting

OK, now remember I drove this car 300 miles from the sellers home to mine in some really crappy weather. I stopped once to get gas and I still have about a half a tank from some no name fuel stop in Indiana close to the Illinois boarder. the car drove and ran great and started ok I think . Now its hard to start after I disconnected the battery when I encountered my computer going wacko after I connected my innova code reader and starting the engine. I received my Autoenginuity code reader and software. Its showing codes:

P0191- fuel range pressure sensor circuit range /performance

P1000- System check not complete since last memory clear.

Fuel pressure reads about 47 psi when running.

I haven't driven it more than 16 miles since I reset the computer last. and at that point it was starting to run a little better.

It supposed to be nice on xmas and I thought I would drive it around so the computer can tune the engine but I'm thinking that I need to change the fuel filter. I will also check to see how all the relays are seated. It was a bumpy ride thru Indiana with all the Ice and holes in their highway. Any suggestions would be appreciated because the closest Jag Dealer is in St. Louis and they also service Rolls Royce.......don't think I want to pay their hourly rate.

Peace!

Hi Wojo,
Here is the description for the P0191 code, the P1000 is nothing to worry about it will change to P1111 after a few driving cycles.

Hope this helps,

There is thread on this Forum by STEVEJACKS called "bad fuel pumps," there is much descriptions of symptoms before the failure. Might help....worth a look.

Mine is a 2005MYand located close to the LHS Rear Wheel.....lay on your back, slide under the rear of car turn your head to the LH Rear wheel and you should see it bolted to the underside of the rear side member. While your under there have a good look at it so you know what to buy.....there is the push fit type (like mine) or a screw in type.
There is a YOU TUBE video for the fuel filter change on an S type R, agreed not our car, but never the less it's a good instruction on how to change it out.

Default Fuel filter... thanks

I've got to believe its the filter. The hard start prob seems to be getting worse. I don't think the car was driven much this year. The fuel pressure reads around 50 psi once it gets started. what does it supposed to be???

I'm so bummed............................................ ......

Peace!

In case it's the filter you're asking to burn the pump out. Much cheaper to change the filter.

50 is good. I really do hope that is your problem and not a failing fuel pump. This video is from a member of this forum who they call the "reverend," he has a thread somewhere on the forum (which I've read but cannot find), his car symptoms are sounding more like yours every thread I read from you on the hard starting issue. Somebody who reads this thread may know who I'm referring to and get you hooked up with him for help & tips in case you do have to replace the pump. Good to change the filter anyway. Have you got the small tool to release the fuel lines if you have the push fit type, from what I read you cannot just "press" 2 tabs like you do on a FORD, it's a completely fitting.

The guy you are referring to Trevor is Rev Sam. He has done many informative "how to" videos which are available in the "how to" section in this forum.

It is feasible though, like you, I would definitely start with the filter. It would be interesting to see what the fuel pressure is when starting.

Also whether the 50psi is maintained when the car is running.

Default fuel filter

my car has the push on fittings......I can't get any readings with the ignition on but engine not running. The pressure reading I'm getting is from the autoengiuity software when the engine is running. It remains pretty constant weather at idle or revving 47 -50 psi.

Thanks for all your help

The pressure is good if it remains at that.....I had to go back over all your threads as I've lost where you are at now? You went from a bad experience with a code reader to the seat module to the fuel pressure issue. Can you start from zero and give us a clue what is and what isn't, we can then help you through each fault in turn.

No worries....for us to help you through this it's best we deal with your original fault which as i recall was the air bag issue......if we get that sorted we can move onto the next fault which was the seat module & then your fuel / poor starting which it looks to be a cold start on a disconnection of the supply so the ECU has gone into system "learn." If you plug your Autoenginuity into the OBD, my bet is you will see code P1000 + additions if the air bag 22 is still present.
