How can I determine which coils I need?

Your engine is AJ27, so 4 pin coils.
Not running smoothly?

just got the restricted code, as i pulled into my mechanic, he said it was a misfire, most likely a coil. He didn't have a chance to put the obd on it.

You're going to need deep pockets if throwing parts at a problem is the repair method of choice.
Get the actual error code read and act accordingly. May well be a coil, but many other culprits too.

Baxtor,
Oh, I understand Jaguars, I have owned a 1997 XJ6 for 8 years, putting quite a few miles on it.
Coils were such a problem with that car, I used to keep a six-pack in the trunk. Sooner or later, this XK8 will need coils, so I ordered them. I am going to do a scan.
