Converting to Brembo brakes for early xk8
Hi folks, I have recently undertaken to install 05 xjr Brembo brakes on my 97 xk8.
I had to have brackets made to accept the much larger calipers. However the 12” existing rotors swap out perfectly with the 05 xjr 14” rotors.
I have about 500 mi on them now They are a vast improvement over the old setup. They stop smooth with no chatter of any sort.
I just ordered the rotors for the rear, so will keep you all posted.
I also had to have special brake lines made locally. Cheaper than factory lines.
Be aware that some kits that are offered use the smaller rear brake calipers in the front.
I could not find any kit that used the large front calipers. They are a tight fit.!!

Yes, more info on this swap
I's really like some more detail on how and what problems you encountered as I have a full set of Brembos off a 2004 XJR that I'd love to install on my '99 XK8. I originally bought them to put on my wife's '04 XJ8 but the electric rear parking brake added more problems than I wanted to deal with so I just stored them.
I'd love to put them to use in my XK8 if it isn't a ball buster to do.
What about wheel size? Did you have to swap to a bigger set? What about front suspension clearances due to the bigger calipers and rotors? That kind of thing.

To start with I am a retired Mechanical Engineer. With access to a metal fab shop.
The caliper anchors to the lower lug. The adapter plate has 3 holes in it. I had made extras, but my local Jag shop bought them from me , before a thought about taking a picture of them.
I will have some more made if there is enough interest.
You will need 19” wheels. I have 20” wheels because they came with the car. I would recommend 19 in.
I trimmed the dust shield with aviation snips.
The suspension clearance is tight, about 1/8 in. Have had no noise and no contact.
I found that pre fitting the setup, before installing the new rotor gives you lots of room to work. This will give you an idea how it all goes together.
I can have more braided brake lines made up as well. The guy I used happened to be a British mechanic. So was happy to help. I spoke with race car builders on the type and thickness of the steel required. South Florida is full of speed and race shops.

Thanks for the replying. I bought a full set of red 2006 victory edition XKR Brembo’s. Hopefully, I can find a way to get them on my restored 1999 XK8.
I would very much appreciate any ideas or sources for adaptors!
Thanks
Jeff

Jrand, I’m going to HIGHLY recommend that you upgrade the front knuckles to a 99’+ XK assembly. They have 4mm larger wheel bearings and will last considerably longer than the already too small for a stock car. If your putting the Brembos on and larger wheels, you really need to upgrade to the larger wheel bearings. Just food for thought.
