cooler thermostat
#21
Hi all:
As usual you have all been a great help.
I will keep monitoring but it sounds like my temp is within spec.
And now I know what the stock thermostat is.
I will be replacing upper / lower and short rad hoses as well as flush and coolant ( orange I believe in my case )
So was going to order a cooler thermostat but I believe will order the stock one
Water pump and thermostat housing was changed recently before I bought the car so I don’t have to worry about those
Thanks again for your input
Howard

Gus:
Thanks for the link
Great help
Yeah that lower hose looked like I needed really really small hands to get in there
Actually kinda figured the fan housing had to come off
Was going to check my JTIS but thanks to you I can bypass that
Looks fairly straight forward ( although I know from experience this is not often the case )
Tks again

Colder air is more dense, warmer air is less dense. In colder temperatures you're actually getting more air drawn into the engine which results in more power even it it's too little to notice. That's why an intercooler is used on a turbocharged or supercharged engine, to release the heat generated from the compression of the air.
The engine is designed to run at a certain temperature, and as mentioned in previous posts, there is not need to try to redesign what the engineers at Jaguar have already done. In fact, it's probably a bad idea as you have a good chance of screwing something up out of ignorance unless you're an engineer with enough knowledge and experience to improve on the work of the engineers at Jaguar or Ford.

any thermostat, of any rating, will not impact the highest temp an engine will run at, a thermostat only sets the low temperature. The high temp of any engine is determined by the radiator size and the air flow and coolant flow thru the radiator.
