Could the XK8 be a daily driver for life?

I look forward to someday soon trying!
Even if I eventually cave and "lump out" which ever XK I end up with. It's the coachwork I am in love with. I just hope I can find a good one before the market starts it's eventual rise on these cars. Or a bad one really cheap. I think it's the fun car I will keep forever. I can always find a Subaru Wagon for getting groceries, but for driving I want to do, well then, having a drop dead gorgeous ragtop in the garage will never go out of style.

They are indeed drop-dead gorgeous ragtops. For decades my wife thought she wanted a Mercedes SL ragtop. I refused to consider one due to the acquisition cost as well as the ongoing maintenance and insurance costs. Since we acquired her XK8 back in February, she's never mentioned an SL again and her XK8 is all she ever wants to drive....

I am sure I would find more excuses to drive the XK8 when I actually score one! However, I do a lot of work in ummm...."subprime" neighborhoods and there is also something liberating about owning a car that you don't really care much about. The Outback is a decent car, but i'm not going to get terribly upset if it gets scratched and dented.

Daily Driver
I've been driving my XK8 365 days of the year in Ohio and Wisconsin sun, snow and rain and I fully intend to keep on doing so. So far 105k miles (bought it with 21k from a dealer).
History: Throttle body rebuild, ABS module rebuild, complete front end bushing replacement and a couple of radiator hoses (about $1600 in total) and then all the normal maintenance (oil, tranny fluid, plugs, filters, etc.).
I am not smitten by the XK body shape (although I drove an XKR-S and I could be persuaded) and the F Type looks like Maserati built a Miata.
I'll be driving my XK8 until it finally quits, and then I'll fix it and drive it some more; it really is a gorgeous car.....although I get funny looks pulling up to work in 4" of snow......
Cheers,
Hamish

2004 Saab 9-3
2001 Dodge Grand Caravan - 245,000 miles and counting.....
