HI Guys,
I have a 96 Coupe and I have been thinking for a while about changing the speakers. But I want to keep the existing head unit. I have the Harmon Kardon system in my car. My question is, does any one have a list of the speaker sizes and requirements to replace these plus the sub woofer. Reading threads here, there are a lot of sizes mentioned, so not clear what speaker size is needed for where. Also, what type of speaker to put where and what impedance to put where. A nice list of what to look for to change them would be great...
I have no idea about car stereo systems, so just really what to take out what's there and drop something else in. I don't want to pull out the interior and go hunting for speakers and specs to match them with the car sitting in parts... I am sure my have degraded over the years and I'd like to have better sound from them.
Many thanks,

I just replaced all of the speakers (less tweeters) in my 00 coupe. It was easier than expected. For the front doors and rear quarters you can fit a 6.5" in there with a little modification. I believe even some particular 6.5" ones will drop right in. I used Alpine E series and am very happy. For the dash mounted mids I was only able to find some Memphis Audio 15-PR275. They're an odd size, as are the tweeters. I never found a suitable cross for them, so the original ones remain and sound decent. I also deleted the factory sub, and built custom molded enclosure for a single 12" sub in the trunk. Looks beautiful. I'll try to round up some pictures.
Some good news is the door panels do not need to be removed to replace the speakers; only the upholstered speaker grille sections. The rear quarter casings are pretty easy to get off too.

The stock subwoofer in a coupe is kind of an oddball size, 8" falls through the hole and 10" won't fit..
I ended up using a low profile Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8 and making an adapter flange to mount it in the stock opening.
