Default Couple of questions on shocks

Anyone know how long the shocks are rated to last, and a good place (online maybe?) to find some replacements? I have a 2003 XKR with 65k miles on the clock.

Thanks in advance!!

They could probably stand to be replaced at 65k mi. but be forewarned: the XKR uses computer controlled shocks and they probably are only available from Jaguar (about $350 ea).

ah yes, the high price of owning an 'R' version...brakes and shocks!

To your question, shocks are actually pretty good, the bilstein seem to last a long time. I'm at 114k, and on 3 of the original shocks. I say three...because number four lost a bushing, and it was cheaper to do the entire shock than press in/out a new bushing...otherwise, I'd have four original shocks.

I have the CATS shocks in my '00 R. They are just fine at 111k miles. I'm on my 2nd set of lower bushings and my upper mounts needs to be replaced, but the shocks ... the very very expensive shocks are ok.

Bounce each corner of the car, if the bounce continues after you let go, without dampening, then the shock is bad.

Inspect each shock. Any leak means the shock is bad.

It is my (limited) experience that everything else in this suspension, ball joints, bushings, etc will wear out long before the shocks.

I did look up the price with the dealer...$485 EACH!!! I'm used to having to change out shocks at about the mileage I have now, but the ride seems okay. It is true what they say, its not how much the car cost to buy, its all about how expensive it is to maintain.
