Crank duration during starting

Crank duration during starting
Several months ago my 2004 XKR failed to start. I had it towed to the Patrick Jaguar in Dallas, Texas. The fuel pump was bad and they also told me that given its age and milage, approximately 50K, that I should also have the fuel filter replaced. I agreed to the work and it was done in a prompt and professional manner but as with any Jaguar repair I had to take out a second mortgage.
My question, and it is not really a problem, is the cranking duration on start up. Prior to the pump and filter replacement every time I turned the ignition key the engine fired up in less than a second, you simply did not hear it crank. Every since the pump and filter replacement the engine cranks any where from 3 to 4 seconds before firing up. It always starts but I have often wondered why the extended cranking time after the fuel pump and filter were replaced.
Any ideas or suggestions that would resolve my curiosity would be appreciated.

I would also be interested in people's thoughts as I have noticed a similar "issue" over the last few weeks. Only change is that I had a service with oil and all filters changed including fuel filter recently. Like the OP the engine used to fire on the first flick of the key, now it takes several cranks before firing - although not on every start sometimes it will be it's old self and fire first flick. I have pulled the fuel pump relays and it runs on main and auxiliary pumps so I'm thinking that's not the answer - maybe an intermittent air lock ?? No other issues at all - runs sweet.

Some replacement fuel pumps on the 2003 and later models had problems with leaky check valves. One of several posts on the subject:

Sorry about the mix up in dealership names. Chalk it up to old age. Different dealer, different town, different state. The correct dealer is Park Place Jaguar located in north Dallas.
FYI - The hydraulic pump/motor went some time ago and when I had it in for the fuel pump and filter replacement I asked them if they would remove the hydraulic pump/motor and plug the lines and after I had the unit rebuilt would they reinstall it. They told me they would and only charged me for the labor resulting in a substantial savings.
