Ok guys. HELP please. I finally had the time to digdeeper into my problem. I changed the dimmer control module and still blew the 10 amp fuse in the #18 slot in the fuse box on passenger side. So I pulled the steering column and signal stalk to see if a wire was broken. Nope no good. All wires were intact. So I changed the stalk with a used one. Fingers crossed it would work. Nope , still blows use and dash lights go off when I turn on headlights. So what's next. I appreciate any feedback. I live out on Eastern Long Island NY and would consider a mechanic if I can't get it solved. Thx Guys.

Sorry to hear,
Do your dash lights come on in any circumstance? I know when I start mine when it's dark out they do come on without the headlights. It definately a short somewhere in the system.
Wasn't sure if a blown bulb could be shorting or a damaged bulb socket. Are all the dash lights on?
If you can't find it I would think an electrician or electrical engineer would be a better choice for troubleshooting if you know any. You have the schematics and I think they could troubleshoot better. I expect a mechanic would replace a harness.
I'll look at the schematics again and see if I could come up with some kind of troubleshooting list that I would follow.
If you could please post a list of what exactly you've done to this point. It may help others that see the thread instead of reading thriough the whole post.

Any possibility there is a steering column shim that slipped down and contacted a wire somewhere? I had that part fall out when I adjusted the steering column level right after I bought the car. It's a little piece of metal and everybody says you don't even need it, but I can imagine it chafing a wire insulation somewhere if it got dislodged and is still floating around unsupervised. My two cents.

The dash lights come on when I start the car. They go out and the fuse blows when I turn the lights on. The fuse is on the passenger side #18 , 10 amps. I replaced the dimmer control module and the signal stalk. Thats what I have done so far. I will check the wiring around the steering column as suggested. If all else fails I will bring her to Jagpro in Bellmore Long Island and have Martin fix it.

Broken wire in turn signal switch and a resulting blown fuse is the cause to this problem. Replace turn signal switch and fuse should cure the problem.
and also make sure the fuse in the drivers side rear seat fuse box get's replaced if this is applicable to your situation
