Look for a 10-pin connector (FT1) with Red/White and Black/White wires going into pins 6 & 7 respectively.
FT1 10-WAY MULTILOCK 070 / WHITE FUEL TANK / REAR
If you have a multimeter, check for between ~80 ohms (full tank) and ~900 ohms (empty) across those two pins if the sender is OK. If the reading is much higher or open-circuit, then a 390 ohm resistor across those pins should give you a shade over half full on the gauge - assuming the sender is linear.
If that doesn't do it, the wiring goes through three other connectors on its way to the IC:
BT2 pins 18 & 17
RH1 pins 14 & 13
FC26 pins 14 & 13
BT2 20-WAY MULTILOCK 070 / WHITE TRUNK / ABOVE RIGHT HAND REAR WHEEL ARCH
RH1 20-WAY MULTILOCK 070 / GREY BEHIND GLOVE BOX
FC26 / 26-WAY AMP MICRO QUAD LOCK / YELLOW - Instrument Pack
FT1 10-WAY MULTILOCK 070 / WHITE FUEL TANK / REAR

THANK YOU!!
I clipped the connector and some wires from my 01 that I am parting and made a harness adapter with a 110 ohm and 47 ohm resistor in series. This gave me a *little* over a half tank which is perfect for emissions drive cycle.
If anyone needs this adapter, PM me and I will send it to you to borrow (not sure what other years it will work for?)
