Default Decisions, decisions,decisions...If it were you?

Car sits in sun 9 hrs. a day. Either buy custom cover(weathershield) or garage it, 12 miles away, at nice secure storage facility for $5O/month. I use car 2/3 days a week. Normal storage facilities are $130/month. what are you're thoughts? Inconvience vs. better shelter?????

Between those two choices, I would buy a high-quality cover, keep it nearby and drive it whenever I had the chance. No sense in putting it in a box miles away. The car should be driven and enjoyed.

Get a fitted Jaguar car cover. They are really heavy material , and a nice light color to bounce off the heat.

The storage option:

FOR:
1. protection from sun
2. secure
3. low cost

AGAINST:
1. 12 mile trip x 2 or 3 per week to collect

Using the XK8 at weekends only or less would be a no-brainer to go for the storage. Using it two or three times a week - how long before you see this trip as a chore?

Cover looks the better option.

Graham

Are you using the car infrequently because it is a second or third car? My impression after 4 years of ownership is that these cars prefer to be driven more rather than less.

How 'bout this .02 answer. Get the cover and use it when the car is at your place and then put it in the garage when you are not. Maybe you have it a couple days in a row then tuck it in when you not. just a thought. TM

Definitely get a good quality cover and keep at home. The expense you save by not renting the storage unit will pay for a very nice cover. If you put car in storage, it starts to be "out of sight, out mind" and things start to go wrong.

Have the same rent vs cover problem. I live in the Sacramento CA area. Summer temps can be over 100 day after day. No shade either in the street or my driveway. I use Coverking reflective covers for my other cars. Good UV protect but the cars still get hot. Bit the bullet and rented a storage unit (190/mo). My 06 has only 43k and is basically showroom perfect. Upside is that the car stays cool and protected. Downside is the cost and it's 1 mi away which makes driving it a little bit more of a chore. Have to plan the weekly drive.
