Defective seat switch fixed
The '97 I purchased a few months ago had a defective passenger seat switch. It would move forward, but not go back. Tried swapping the module, but no change, so I was pretty sure it was the switch. The knob moved freely toward the front of the car, but would not go to the rear, so I suspected a broken switch inside, or maybe something jammed inside.
1) 1st step was to remove the seat. I had previously moved the seat all the way back with the seat hack, so I removed the 4 seat bolts and removed the seat.
2) remove the motor frame from the bottom of the seat. 4 #40 Torx bolts. The two in the front are a little difficult to get at. I used a Torx Allen wrench to get these two. Move the base to the side. You can get just a little more clearance by also popping the christmas tree fastener holding the wiring harness to the seat bottom.
3) Remove the switch. I had been dreading this, but plunged ahead. I had an old driver's seat, so used that as a trial. Turned out to be a lot easier than I had expected. With the seat frame out of the way, you can use a large screwdriver or body pry tool to move the foam away from the back of the switch, revealing a double slot. Sticking a screwdriver into one of those slots will allow you to gently pry the catch away from the switch. I will add a short video here soon. You are prying on the rear of the catch.
4) With the switch out, you can return the seat to the car if you like. The repaired switch, or a replacement should you need to go that route, can be installed with the seat in the car. You can use the hack if necessary to move the seat position. Test the switch before snapping it into place.
5) In a secure place, remove the 5 Phillips screws that hold the switch to the cover plate. Lift the switch up off the cover plate. The knobs will stay attached to the cover ( unless something is terribly broken).
6) For me, there were two black plastic parts that prevent the switch from moving up / down, but would allow front to rear motion. With those installed, the knob would not slide to the rear. I removed the knob, and flipped it over. This allowed the slots in the knob, that the two black parts mate with, to fit with the knob centered. Now the switch works as designed. I think at some point in the past, either the knob was knocked off and re-installed upside down, or the wrong knob was used as a replacement.
Here's a bunch of pictures, including both the Passenger side as well as the Driver's side switches.

Good job, and great photos. I think the later switches are a bit different. My 2006 has a different mount and switch location. I see on the seat module that it states, "Fully Programmable" What is required to program? Is that for the individual seat for Seat position 1 and 2, or something else. I am getting ready to replace a seat module that is destroyed on my 2006. I hope it will solve a few problems I have on my car.
Switches do not have the separate back plate that is on Darbysan's '97.
