Update: Solution to your internet browers invalid link errors (getting "This link wasn't well formed") when trying open the dropbox.com using the PDF weblinks I have in this post.
Looks like I had a bad upload to the dropbox.com website (PDF file for JTIS21 install on 32 bit Windows Operating systems (Windows 8, Windows 7, XP, and Vista)
I fixed the issue by reuploading the PDF file.
If you ever get the "This link wasn't well formed" - invalid link error, then you should look at the solution I found on the internet that is in the following PDF file:

Since the JTIS is a computer program (application), the computer must have the DAO350.dll registered and also the setup.exe must be run (to create the C:\Jaguar folder and the files in its folder that are also recorded in the computer's registry).
The registry is essentially the catalog or reference source for your computer.
When you attempt to open a program, your computer queries the registry to find where the program is stored. The registry contains references to settings and values for the operating system, the programs, user profiles, document types, property sheet settings, system hardware and ports. Basically, much of what goes into or comes out of your computer is noted in the registry.
Looks like you can purchase the PDF version for 1999 XK and XKR - Jaguar XK8 XKR X100 Workshop Manual (3265 pages) - PDF download (JagDocs website - Sale: $9.72 €7.34 £5.97).
This is the genuine workshop manual for the XK8 from Jaguar, in PDF format.
It was published for the 1999 MY but will also be relevant for many aspects of maintenance for the other model years from 1997 to 2002.
At 3265 pages, it is a must have for any owner attempting their own DIY or just interested to find out more about the cars.
The engines/gearboxes covered are:
XK8 - 4.0L V8 (AJ27)/ZF 5HP24
XKR - 4.0L V8 S/C (AJ26)/W5A580
Here is the weblink to purchase the PDF file download:
http://www.jagdocs.com/index.php?mai...roducts_id=451
There is a JTIS XJ 1998-2003 PDF file download on the dropbox.com (Jaguar UK forum member posted it -appears to be the one JagDocs.com sells):
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13779846592899
I downloaded the PDF zipped file (68038 KB), then used WinRAR program to view the XJ-X308_Workshop_Manual.pdf file, then used the PDF reader Save as function to save the PDF file to a formatted CD.
Used 63.6 Mega Bytes on the CD.
You can run the CD on any windows PC that has PDF reader software.
You can download WinRAR (32 or 64 byte) on the following webpage:
http://freedownloadwinrar.net/
It is an evaluation copy that expires, but I have been using it at least for 5 years now since it expired. When the expiration popup opens, just click on the popup close button and use double click on the file listed in the archive to open it in the PDF Reader.

Silly Question #432:
I have successfully done all of the stuff, and everything works beautifully (great instructions, thanks a million).
-- HOWEVER --
I can start JTIS, and it opens, and says "please insert CD into CD Disk Drive". If I click "OK" (the only option), the program remains open and available, but any option I select says (you guessed it) "please insert CD ...".
Is this expected behaviour, and if so what do I put on to the CD, before I insert the CD into the CD Drive?

Sounds like an issue with the jjtis.ini file.
When JTIS gives the message "please insert CD into CD Disk Drive". It is telling you that it cannot find the Data files.
Here is the some of the contents of my jjtis.ini file:
[File]
StartFile=C:\JTIS21\data\startup.txt
DataPath=C:\JTIS21\data
DTCStartFile=DTCStart.PDF
Whatsnew=C:\JTIS21\data\whatsnew.sgm
Note that all the entries that have the folder information are C:\JTIS21 - This is the folder where that I used when I extracted the files from the JTIS archive downloads.
I noticed that when I run the jjtis.exe in the C:\jaguar folder that it is using the JJTIS.INI file located in C:\Users/User/APPData/Local/VitualStore/Windows folder.
Note: C:\Users then User (substitute your user account name on your win7 PC for User).
Sounds like you are missing the jjtis.ini file in that folder.
You may have the jjtis.ini is in another folder on your PC.
Do a search on your PC using search term jjtis.ini.
If you do, then copy it into the C:\Users/User/APPData/Local/VitualStore/Windows folder (substitute your user account name on your win7 PC for User).

Thanks Jim.
For others following in my wake: I am on a mac, using Windows 7 in a VMWare virtual machine, JJTIS.INI had correctly located the JTIS folder, but JTIS couldn't recognise the path (as it didn't start with C: or D:, it was using a path that started \\vmware-host\etc.). I moved the JTIS folder to the C: drive, and updated JJTIS.INI to point to it, and everything works beautifully.
Until Jim pointed out the ini file, I had no idea it existed, nor where to look for it, so I am hugely grateful for his response!

You might try VMware for MAC I use VMware on windows to run linux and other stuff and a quick google showed it available for macs. With enough effort one probably could get it to work, IF my daughter lets me borrow her mac book maybe I'll give it a go and provide inst but it might be awhile.

I have an old Vista-driven laptop that I use just for this. No worries about getting it messed up out in the garage and I keep Microsoft clone software off my Mac.
You can pick up used PC laptops for little or no money if you don't already have one hidden in the back of a closet somewhere.
This approach has the benefit of reminding you why you paid extra for that Mac.

Running from USB drive on win8 works
Since I use a ultra notepad in the house I wanted to be able to read the jtis from that device, since it uses ssd drives (256G) I'm sensitive to what I load on it and 1/2 gig for the jtis wasn't justified.
Running windows 8.1 I inserted the thumb drive it assigned a 'E'
I extracted the jtis to a folder of that drive, can be any name
This installed some partial stuff in C:\Jaguar which I moved to the thumbdrive
I updated the .ini file (see post above 46 i believe) in the last line just ensure it points to you thumb drive/folder.
(I'd also setup the DAO file as required)
So as long as when I install the thumbdrive and ensure or reassign it to 'E' drive I run it all off there, I'll update this later, I think as long as the DAO dll is installed I could plug this in to any of my computers and run as such.
fyi

My JTIS for x-type stops at 2004 model, I have a 2008
I like the x-type so much, I bought one for me. My wife has an 08, and I use the jtis for ac replacement and other minor stuff. We've put 60k miles on the 02. I got it f few years ago with 24k miles.
Now I have the 2008, and I was wondering if there was a JTIS for the 2008.
Pat
PS:
I need to install it on a windows 8 laptop, can anybody get me a direct link to be able to do this? I'm finding a hodge podge of stuff about it. I recommend you delete all the stuff except the target site: lol

Thanks for setting this up Jim. I installed the JTIS on my Win7 64 Pro Version, and it is working...mostly.
The Windows HLP file showed an error after trying to run it, same with different versions of the same file downloaded directly from Microsoft. I thought that would grind the whole thing to a halt, but in the end, did not matter.
The DAO 350 install was straightforward, per your instructions, as was the Xp fix, although the warnings were different.
I only downloaded and installed the XK8 specific files. The service files all work fine, but I get an error message about file not found when I try to open the electrical diagrams, or any of the other buttons to the right. Any thoughts?

I think they're PDF files so may need an appropriate reader.
You can probably get the file(s) individually from JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource
