For those of you with the adaptive cruise control...do you like it?

I like it...you still have to pay attention, but I think it is a convenience to have it and not have to cancel the cruise control every time someone slows up in front of you. Because it does not brake hard if you encounter a major slowdown, you have to pay attention, (which is highly recommended when your cruising down the highway anyway)!

Do you know when the adaptive cruise control was introduced in these cars?

Is it just on the new shape?

It was introduced in the UK as an XKR option in September 1999 and became available for the XK8 from the end of 2000.

I probably just missed it then, on a car registered September 2000.

Oh well

It's an option - not a standard fitting. Very few XK8's I've seen and driven in the UK have it fitted.

I have it and find it both useful and intrusive.

In moderate, strait traffic it's handy. If the road happens to turn while you are overtaking a large truck it can pick up reflections and put on the brakes, which can be quite disconcerting.

I'll have to say, I learned about the system behavior on the drive home from buying the car (1500miles) and the first time it put the brakes on it scared the bajeezuz out of me.

Also have the Driver Alert feature, whose switch was stuck in "on" when I got the car. You talk about annoying. Every time someone pulled in front of you: BEEEEP. Every stop sign: BEEEEP. Every traffic light: BEEEEP.

Suffice it to say that once it was turned off, it has not been back on.

That said, it did earn the car her nickname, Judy, for my mother in law. But that's a story for another thread .

Well, for a couple of years or so, they did make cars here that would talk to you to tell you about putting on your seat belts and so forth, but they quickly got away from that.

The LAST thing that anyone needs is to have their CAR bitch at them, especially then they are going for a drive to get away from a bitching session.

I had adaptive cruise on my 2003 xkr. I liked it a lot. Here in Nebraska, the roads are flat and straight. It works perfectly. I am searching for a replacement for my xkr and want another with adaptive cruise. They are somewhat hard to find here in the states. Very few xkr's with it and I have yet to see and xk8 with it. I'll keep searching till I find what I want. For interstate travel, I highly recommend it.

I like it. I've driven nearly three hours with it on without ever having to brake. Mine works great.

Long straight roads, no problem.

Oncoming traffic on a curve, uh oh.

Here in the UK I find it very useful when a highway has reduced speed or average speed cameras due roadworks. BUT used normally it can put the brakes on without warning.
I too have forward alert switched off !

The problem with the Jaguar OEM ACC is that you can't switch from adaptive CC to normal CC. It's all or nothing. Because of that, I declined to have it on my car.

I have the ACC on my 2005 XKR Coupe and really like. As is the case for any electronic option/convenience it has its +/- applications. It has saved me on a couple of occasions while driving under foggy conditions. Even when drinving defensively this option adds just the right measure of additional safety when applied accordingly. It is not a substitue for hands on the wheel and eyes on tthe road, but you will sure appreciate it as drving conditions begin to degrade.
