Door handle seal

Door handle seal
When they painted my car, they took the rubber seal off from around the door handle and you cannot buy either the seal or a door handle.
I am thinking of using RTV or something similar to replace the seal, so that the handle will stay tight.
Anybody else have this problem?

I just replaced the seal (gasket) on my drivers door.
The door handle has to be removed which is quite a job. The door window has to be in the 'all the way up' position. After you do that disconnect the Bty., because if you hit or move the wrong thing in there, the power window will come down and if your hand is in there, you could loose a finger or mangle your hand. Thankfully I wasn't hurt, but I speak from experience.
The new seal is just like the old one and wraps around the handle. The handle lift (opening) part was not present when they installed the original seal and they then installed the opening mechanism which has a spring which clamps over the rap around portion of the seal.
If you replacement seal is on the drivers side, you will also have to remove the key lock, which is not that hard. It is held to the door handle by a single phillips head screw. Once the screw is removed the locking part can be removed by a half turn.
Come to think about it, this was a hell of a job. Do some reading or ask for some help from someone who did the job before. To put the seal back on like it came from the factory is not just a simple snap over thing like a rubber band. It's a zinger to do.

I did this a few years ago on my 98 XK8, I seem to remember I cut one section to install it, rather than dissemble the whole door handle. My new to me 05 XKR needs one on the left side. Thanks for the reminder, I ordered one yesterday. Now it's back to the upper suspension bushing project. I noticed the top strut mounts need replacing too, bugger!
