The passenger side wing mirror assembly on my '99 XK8 has died. The 'plastic' motor housing shattered and needs replacing. Does anyone have first-hand knowledge of whether the internal parts of the XK8 mirror housing are the same as a comparable year XJ8 mirror housing? The XK8 and XJ8 images on eBay look alike and it makes me wonder if they are the same units. My mirror's Manufacturer # is E11 011166 and some of the eBay listings include that same number on the XJ8. My gut tells me that they are the same but I was wondering if anyone can confirm. Thank you. Warren Warburton 1999 XK8 Previous: 1989 XJS, 1978 MGB, and 1962 TR3
As I'm a "cheap, zero dollar" type of guy, I tried the wing mirror from this scrap XJ (no idea of the MY) but the internals didn't fit and the connector was different. I abandoned the idea and got a cheap non-electrochromatic mirror assembly.
David, What I need to replace is the internal wing mirror motor and what I'm finding is that there are two different motors used. Part # HNA3064AA is the motor for a non-memory wing mirror and part number HNA3066AB is the motor for a memory wing mirror motor. Both motors look alike but the connector is different. The memory motor has a regular rectangular male plug that fits into a female plug on the motor while the non-memory motor's plug is more like a flat plug. These motors are still available but interestingly the memory motor is cheaper than the non-memory motor. If you still have the junkyard motor can you tell if it is the memory or non-memory motor and if you still have it can you count the number of wires going into it? Thank you, David.
Sorry, I don't have the junkyard unit anymore, as I gave it back for a refund. That was about 2 years ago.
My 99 XK8 has the memory function and all I remember is that the electrical connector didn't fit, and also the scrap XJS unit with mirror, didn't fit into the shell of my XK8 door mirror. FWIW this junkyard XJS was a diplomatic vehicle, for the British Embassy here in Bahrain, so i would have expected it to be well kitted out with all the options (ie with memory function).
If you're just looking for the plastic motor, quickly looking at jagbits.com, they do say the motor HNA3066AB fits 1998-2003 XJ8, 1995-97 XJ6, and 1997-2005 XK8. So you're probably be good to go albeit it's not cheap for such a small part.
