Default Doors unlock then immediately lock again

Searched, but couldn't find someone with the exact same problem (or a solution). When I use my fob to unlock my doors, one push of the unlock button unlocks the driver's door. A second push of the button should unlock all of the rest of the doors which it does for about a second, than re-locks them all. Also, when sitting in the car I can't unlock the passenger/rear doors by pulling open the lock handle on the driver's door. Is this a programming problem with the fob or the module and, if so, what's the solution? Is this some sort of self-locking security feature that would normally automatically lock the doors after a speciified period of time?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

ALL the locks need to 'agree' when unlocked.
If your passenger door has a mechanical fault, the other locks will simply RELOCK.
(I think the opposite is true, if the passenger door will NOT lock, then the others would likely LOCK, then UNLOCK immediately?)

The door lock switch is operating (it locks all the doors when it is locked) but the actuator or seized rod assys. will not allow the door lock to lock/unlock.

The passenger door would show OPEN in the INSTPK display if the microswitch was faulty.

I had the same problem with my maserati. Lock the drivers door with the key and the doors would immediately unlock. The fault was with the passenger door module.

Max, FWIW I've seen this once or twice when battery was low on my 98.

It could be a microswitch inside the door lock. They aren't difficult to replace and don't cost much. Although at the moment there aren't any of the switches in stock probably because of Covid. This is them though D2SW-3L3MS Omron Electronics | Mouser United Kingdom

This catches my eye.

A few different things can contribute to the relocking behavior, but this happened to me when the little plastic tab inside the motor inside the door lock module was broken. It meant the motor wouldn't position all of the little mechanical bits at the right place where the door handle could mechanically unlock it.

Be warned: if you cannot mechanically unlock the passenger door, then you're at risk of big trouble if you need to open the door to fix an electrical issue (like a blown fuse) but can't because it's locked and can't unlock because of the electrical issue. I had this happen to me, but fortunately it was only a temporary glitch caused by water ingress.

It was enough to scare me into finally pulling the module and fixing the tab, though.

Thanks for your insight on this. It appears to be more of an electrical problem than a mechanical one. The passenger door lock mechanism isn't jammed and moves freely when operated manually. It just doesn't repsond when I use my fob; a bit inconvenient, but not a real crisis. I ordered a new microswitch assuming that to be the problem which will have to wait until there are warmer days in store. Probably should have checked the fuses first.....

I think an actuator assy is more in line with your needs. (or jammed rods)

To clarify, if you're in the car and the doors are locked, can you unlock and then open the passenger door using only the passenger door handle?

I'm not sure whether you might have meant that it moves freely and opens the door once it's already unlocked.

If you can unlock the door using only the handle on that door (and not using any electrical at all) then right, you're in the clear for what I was pointing out. Thank goodness

I have posted on this regarding accessing the microswitches etc. It's in the sticky area https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-234331/page2/
