Default The dreaded timing chain

So… 25 miles after picking up a 1997 convertible the timing chain jumped and tensioners gone. A local specialist are quoting $2500 for new chains, tensioners etc. Given a chain kit can be purchased for $500 I’m wondering if I’m getting a good deal?

Assuming that the 'jump' hasn't resulted in piston/valve contact, there's quite a bit of work in dismantling the front of the motor to get at the primaries, although that quote may be a little on the high side.

However, if it has, you're very likely into a world of pain, I'm afraid.

Agree with Michael. I had mine done prophylacticaly 10 or so years ago. Price was a few hundred cheaper, but 10 yrs? Probably close.
