Default ECM question

I'm looking to buy a 97 XK8 that has transmission issues. I have a spare 97 transmission that will take care of that issue. My question is the owner of the car bought it for its ECM that he was going to put in his 97 XK8 that had ECM issues. He took the ECM out of the car i'm looking at. He found out that it didn't match up to his car. My question is if I reinstall the ECM do I have to do anything ( program- hard reset )or just plug it in and i'm to go?

The 1997 ECMs are one of a kind as they have no link to a KTM. Jaguar started using keys with transponders in 1998. The ECM for 1997MY XK8 is NLA from Jaguar.
My buddies at the Jag dealer I worked at years ago called me to ask if I had a good used ECM for 1997 XK. I did not so they had to send the old one out to get repaired.

I don't think you need an 'immobilization-setup' for the 1997 XK. There might be a difference between Conv and Coupe??? VCATS will be your friend.

The ECM SHOULD be a 'plug & go' if it is the correct part number (software version).

You should have no issues swapping the transmission unless there is a problem with the TCM.

There should not be a problem putting the original ECM back in.

Thank you for your responses I did not buy the car the interior was in too bad of shape. It wasn't worth the price he wAntes and I do not need another parts car. But the information about the ECM is good to know
