Electrical Gremlins in the radio
I've searched the forums and I can't find a similar problem. I sure hope someone can help. I've got a '99 XK8 with the factory radio/cassette deck. I'm not sure if this is an upgrade or not so I took a picture. Anyway, the radio will play great for a few minutes, then the sound will cut off completely. If I press one of the station preset buttons, it comes right back on. Very strange.
Anyone have any ideas?

This is not the first report of the radios sound going off and on. I am working on a way to get it fixed. Give me another day or two. I will let you know.

My radio issue is slightly different, but perhaps connected. The FM reception is weak, and it manifests as the stereo going on and off. One minute the full sound is there, and the next it is clearly on the right side only. The interesting thing about it is that the CD sound is terrific - all the time and consistent I take that to be a tuner/antenna problem, but I will await Gus's diagnosis and perhaps a cure. I am having the same issue with the sound cutting out after a few minutes, ive found that this happened only after i replaced the factory speakers, with infinity splits, im thinking its something to do with the speakers drawing too much power, because it only happens when i turn it up loud, on lower volumes its fine. But i fix or solution would be fantastic

I am awaiting a call on this but I recently found this post https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=41031 I have not done this so I have no idea if it works. I will post my results when I get the return call.

I had an issue once, a few weeks ago, where my radio would not respond to any of the buttons/knobs. It was on an FM station, but I could not change the station, volume or even turn it off. It only lasted for about 5 minutes and then it finally shut off and when I turned it back on, all was fine. It has not done it since.

I recently had a conversation with the radio repair person that I thought could help with this problem and he told me that he did not have the equipment to work on Jaguar radios. I asked him because he works on Land Rover radios with what appears to be the same problem. He also installed i-pod connections direct to the radio. Sorry I gave it my best shot!

Here is the code to turn OFF the Alternate Frequency Scan on the radio:
To eliminate this break in radio output, the Alternative Frequency feature of the RBDS should be
switched off using the following method.
1.Press the ‘Tape Eject’ and ‘AM/FM’ buttons simultaneously.
2.The display will show ‘Set Up’. This display will last for 15 seconds, the next operation
must be completed within this period.
3.Press pre-set button 8, to display ‘AF ON’.
4.This display will last for 15 seconds, the next operation must be completed within this
period.
5.Press pre-set button 8 again to display ‘AF OFF’.
This worked for me too - except that it turned out to be pre-set button 7, rather than 8 on my radio. Good old Jaguar!!! DaleD
