Default Emissions on one bank out

Hello!

My car has had the MOT today, and it failed on one thing badly.

Emissions on one bank was way out, something like 9% CO.

What can be possible causes:

1) I changed the upper timing chains and tensioners last autumn.. Can one bank be out of phase?

2) Electronics. What happens if one of the Lambda sensors goes bad?

Anyone experienced the same? Engine runs fine, no issues apart from nostart issue because of cylinder wash once this winter.

Ideas anyone?

Cheers, Jarle

Sorry jagnor, I personally don't understand the emissions system that well (ok, not at all past the fact that I know it has one)

There should be some help along shortly tonight or tomorrow. Hang tight.

In the meantime, do you have a scanner that can monitor real time O2 stats?

No probs! I've got an appointment at the workshop monday the 31.st of may. I was however hoping to check if there is stuff I can do before I go there. Hopefully they don't have to do much...

Cheers, Jarle

Good morning h20.. No, I'm afraid not.
I guess the Lambda stops working at 3500 rpms or something?
If my mixture above that is perfect, then it is likely that this is the problem?

No one else has any input?

Either this is a very weird problem, or everybody is on vacation

Going there on monday, would be great to have some ideas to test during the weekend!

Not much you can do with this one without a scanner and the car in front of you. Do you have any check engine lights? I assume no. At that point its a matter of taking real time readings with a scan tool and see what is out of limits. So to be of such little help.

The same conclusion I have come to. Not much that can done without some tools not present in a home garage.. Will have to leave this one to the experts.
Thanks for chiming in...

Cheers, Jarle

sometimes these issues are just outside of our ability to help, or even guess without some direction on where to go, via the codes. If you ever find yourself needing a scanner, we've got a 'member approved OBDII scanner' thread in the off-topic section that can offer some examples. I've found mine has paid for itself a couple times over in avoided shop visits.
