Engine Failsafe Mode...Meaning???
I just got through reading my owner's book, looking to see what NEW anguish has beset on me, and did not come up with anything. I have a couple exhaust leaks, before the center muffler. Would they cause this? Other than this message, the car drives fine. Will this message leave me stranded somewhere, or is it just the great Jaguar God screwing with me. It didn't start until I replaced the passenger side catalytic converter gasket. No codes or faults except P1000 Ideas???. There are days I miss my Corvettes, just for being simple....but not enough to get another one.....Thanks.....Mike

Ive driven my 1998 Xk8 for about 7 years at least with that message on. No problems related to it whatsoever. Ive had minor other issues, but those have been routine maintenance. Car has 133k on it now and finally replacing transmission fluid, O ring, filter for first time in 10 years.
No idea what the message is either but wasnt paying to find out.

If you're replacing the transmission filter, consider replacing the main pressure valve. It takes about one hour additional and costs less than $30.

Looking at all the info on line, I think I will try replacing the TPS, when I get paid at the end of the month. It isn't brain surgery, and if it will once again clear a message and yellow light, it will put my mind at ease. It may even get rid of the minor hesitation, when pressing on the gas. Just buying the part seems to cut out the middleman, at this point.
I think they put that message center there just to screw with me. It took me months to get rid of the ABS light, and it is kind of nice driving around with no yellow warning lights on the dash.
Convertible season is just around the corner, and even though you couldn't tell by today's weather, I hope to be part of it.
I am missing the Wednesday evening car get togethers, and the Friday and Saturday nights at the Harley dealer, parked next to the other Jags, MGs, Triumphs, and all the other folks. The Jello shots from between a 30 something's ***** are cool too. I don't seem to be working too hard at selling her, so it may all be for the best.
I think I just need to develop a Jaguar mindset, that there is always going to be something broken, or about to be broken I swear these cars are haunted
If you don't think this is the right way to go, just chime in.......Mike

It took a special kind of idiot to own my 71 XKE, and the same type of idiot to own my XK8, so I am just going to get it into my head, that there will always be something wrong, or about to be wrong. I am sure this attitude will keep me at least functional, in society, without the use of drugs.....Life is good.....Mike

Hey Mike--you wouldn't buy another Vette? I had my 95 for 14 years and it was pretty trouble-free considering.
I think modern cars with computer monitoring systems are a double-edged sword. The computer can adjust for problems but sometimes this also masks the problems. On the other end the diagnostic system can be so sensitive that you get all sorts of false warning messages or messages for something that doesn't even apply (this seems to be the case with our generation Jaguars due to the multiplexing of the system).

Jag folks are more accepting. Maybe it has something to do with all of us trying to keep our cars on the road, or helping each other. I have personally met the nicest people driving Jags, and British cars. I have been given parts for just postage, when people heard of what I was experiencing.
I got my Mina cold air intake for free, from a guy a half hour from my house, who was trading his XK8 for an XJS. I hope I have helped people too.......
Besides, you can see Corvettes everyday. I only have one XKR reasonably close to me(25 miles), and both of us get compliments just parking our cars, and going to the store.(I get to park in the front, because I'm considered handicapped) She shines pretty under the lights at night. XK8s are the most beautiful Jaguars since the XKE, and the passerby's comments prove it. My retro look really gets em looking.
You don't end up working on a Corvette as much, but unless you like to be snubbed, Vette ownership is a lonely life......Be cool.....Mike

Hi Mike,
We Jag owners, especially XK8 owners, are often referred to as masochists for all the pain we faithfully put up with...
But given the satisfaction we get when time after time we were able to bring the old cat back to perfect health, and observing the admiring stare from onlookers who wonder what the heck is that make, which no all too common Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren, Porsche, or Vette owner can similarly experience, that gives us plenty of strength to hold on to our pet, don't you agree?

Truer words have not been spoken......The only people who seem to know what an XK8 or R is are Jaguar folks.
It does make me feel better when I get everything perfect. I just wish I didn't buy a used up car, and had to put all the work in it, but being on disability that was my only choice.....
They are beautiful cars. Nothing like the slab sided Ferraris, Corvettes, or Lambos of the same era.....Mike
