Default Engine Oil Choice

What do you guys recommend as the best engine oil for a 2001/2002 X100 XKR (4.0 Litre)?

There are many fine choices., so there’s more than one right answer.

what do I use in the same engine ?

Mobil 1 0-40 FS

in my fact I use the same oil in numerous vintage cars and motorcycles, and even my 12 year old Honda lawnmower.

so far my 2002 XKR has 189,000 miles on it with no signs of any measurable wear. 73,000 miles under my ownership and using the 0w-40. The car is my daily driver and is driven often cross country 500-700 miles daily. So this oil is getting a good workout.

i change it at 4,000-5,000 miles. It can go farther between oil changes, but that is my comfort zone…

I have always run Castrol GTX 5W-30 in my wife's 2006 XK8. I change the oil (8 quarts) and oil filter every 6,000 miles. We have owned the car since early February 2012, it now has 126,800 miles on the odometer, I have never had to add even a drop of oil between oil changes, and I have had zero engine-related issues. Works for me....

This is from my 2002 owners manual. Jaguar recommends a variety of viscosities depending on the climate you are driving in. For where I live the 0w-40 hits all the right notes.

In my experience the more exciting words there are in the name of the oil the better it is. I find Castrol Edge Professional LongLife III Titanium Plus Extra Dynamic Super Toast Hyperslippy QXR1000 the best oil I've ever paid a premium for.

Yea the names are dumb but it's cheap enough oil.

I switched to quaker state euro 5w40, which is very similar to the much more expensive pennzoil platinum euro. bobistheoilguy forum recommended it and it's cheap at walmart

Talking Oil Change Time

FWIW, I've always used Pennzoil 5w-30 High-Mileage, and a Mahle OC 602 filter. The level always stays right in the middle between the full and add mark. (no matter how many times I try to fill it) ;^)
