Engine swap: US spec vs. ROW spec - will it work

Dear gents,
usually I'm happily participating in the x308 section but today I'm here in the x100 section on behalf of a unlucky friend. He's owning a '97 XK8 convertible (US spec) with 133k mls on the clock. Last week he had to be towed home due to a loud and significant knocking/rumbling noise from the engine. As presumed from the first video his engine is toast with big end knock.
Now he's going down the route to replace his engine. Having an US spec car here in Germany leads me to the question, if a regular ROW spec engine will do the trick as well?
Going through the electrical guides of NAS and ROW models lets me realize that the US spec models use additional downstream O2 sensors, as well as a EGR valve. But when reusing the exhaust manifolds, cats, EGR valve and all the wiring from the US car the ROW engine should run out of the box..or is there any more involved to make it work?
What do the experts think about this?
Thank you very much and best regards, Alexander

Thanks Bob!
You're dead right! Thinking about it long and hard I didn't notice an EGR valve when replacing the O2 sensor at that very car. One component less to take care of.
What do you think of using a ROW engine to replace an US engine?
Cheers and best regards, Alexander
PS: thanks for the TSBs! If the deletion of the EGR would be that easy with my 2000 AJ27 XJR too, I'd be more than happy :-)

The actual AJ26 engine is the same long block assembly. For a new engine to work seamlessly you need to reuse all of the attachments from the original engine. You will find the feed and return heater hoses wrong side for a LHD just to start small. You will have all of the existing parts to make the swap, intake, throttle body. connections etc.
