I contacted GordoCatCar to see if he is the one that has a loaner tool. I recall seeing one available but not sure it was Gordo that had it. I am sure he will contact you if he does.

Gus,

I appreciate that - thank you I did find one gentleman who had one he rented out, but he said it would be several weeks before it was available. I'd like to get this thing wrapped up soon rather than later so unfortunately that one is not an option.

Thanks again,
Jonny

While you are in there, you might look at the primary tensioners as well. The shoes on mine were cracked and missing pieces. Since I plan to keep my car long term I went ahead and replaced the chains as well. Probably overkill.

That is my next decision - do I pull the whole front of the motor apart to check the primaries? I was going to do the secondaries, run the compression test and then go from there. If my primaries are bad, that should be evident in the compression right?

The primarys wouldn't normally effect the compression, but what you plan could be a good idea to eliminate the chance of doing a lot of work only to find something on the head has been damaged when the chain jumped due to the secondary failure.

Thank you for your response. Glad to know I am on the right track Hopefully the secondary tensioners are all that I have to worry about.

Just to verify - which specialty tools do I need just to do the secondary's on the basis that I did jump one tooth? Thanks again.

Regards,
Jonny

Well, just in case anyone is still reading this

I got to work on the car Saturday and removed the damaged tensioners. Both were cracked, and missing either a top or bottom shoe. Thankfully I had Gordon on hand to answer some questions along the way. I had jumped a tooth (hopefully just one) so had to do things a little differently. Finally got all my flats in the correct spot and put it back together. Next step now is to run a compression test on the motor to make sure jumping the tooth didn't cause any damage to the valves. Not sure when I will get to do this, most likely this coming weekend.
