thanks for the helpful tips my car is up and running, saved me from going to a dealer...
on another note, i have an 2001 xk8. before disconnecting the battery the windows used to go slightly dwn when i opened door and slightly up when i shut the door, now it does not who can explain how to get it to go up and down slightly when opening and closing door...this happened to me before but it went back to its memory eventually like a month later...

With the Door Closed, Raise the Window and continue to hold the Switch on for 3 more seconds.
Repeat for Window Down.
Repeat for Other Door.
