Estimating battery charge from voltage

Estimating battery charge from voltage
It has long bugged me that, with sealed batteries, we lost the ability to just dip in the hydrometer and get a good measure of state-of-charge.
There is voltage-v.-charge-v.-temperature data published which can be used with sealed batteries, but that data never seems to be at hand when needed. I wanted some sort of rule that I could keep in my head.
So ... came up with a rule-of-thumb. Please see 2nd paper at http://www.scorekeeper.com/jaguar/jaguar02.htm
Any suggestions, comments, criticisms are welcome, either here or by PM. Hope this is of value to someone.
