I wonder if I could remove the rear mufflers and the 2 mufflers in front of the diff and then put an appropriately sized Borla muffler on each side at the rear. In place of the back mufflers. I don’t like the large blank spot left when you just remove the rear mufflers.
Has anyone done this?
Todd, I actually like the 'large blank spot' left behind by the rear muffler delete!!!. I adjusted my pipes to be lower than normal at the Axle so that they are visible and come up at a steeper angle. The effect is similar to e-type and whilst only a subtle touch, it's what I prefer ! Each to their own....
I thought of that too. The middle muffler delete is the preferred way to be not too load and no droning. I may go that route leaving something cool like the Borlas as an option later after "testing". TM
I removed the middle mufflers, and found that it didn't change the exhaust note too much. I then also took out the rear boxes, and it is now just right. No Drone, and just a little burble on start up and idle. You can just hear it inside the car as you accelerate, but at cruise it is quiet.
Sometime back I replaced the middle Muffler and replaced it with a Magnaflow Double Muffler, which has an X-Pipe built in it...then removed all the rear Pipes and Mufflers and Silencers and replaced them with (2) 3-chambered Mufflers.....Sounds good and not loud nor does it drone! Not very expensive....The Magnaflow X-Pipe Muffler was around $150.00 and the (2) 3 Chambered Mufflers were about $85.00 each......The muffler Man provided the 21/2" Pipe needed to complete the Job.....the whole job was about $500.00, as I used the Stock Double Tail Pipe extensions that came on the 2005 XKR....I'm pretty Happy with it.....It's not Stainless Steel Pipe but who cares...No one is going to look under the Car anyway......... Makes me Happy! I now have an X-Pipe hidden inside that center Muffler....which couldn't hurt! and it sounds good........
