Exhausted confusion

Ok, here is an update: In Delran, NJ is a small shop called Marty's which does sell Flow master. So I made a visit. The car went on the lift and Marty and I did some talking. He was rather cautious and stated that it will not do any of us any good if you are not happy with the sound or performance. What he wants to do is put in the crossover in place of the center muffler and remove the smaller mufflers by the rear axle. We would leave the two others by the tips. I felt that this was a good idea. He did state while some systems sound good at idle or on acceleration, sometimes they rasp and sound horrendous at criusing speed. He says after we evaluate this, we can do changes if need be.

That will essentially give you what I've got, except you'll still have the squished pipes over the axle. I think you will like the sound of it.

Before cutting off more than one muffler, I'd do a sound check in a small tunnel, underpass or an area where you'll be able to hear your reflected sound... On the open road you won't hear how loud your exhaust is without having someone else drive your car.
Removing just the center muffler and adding an H pipe made my Jag louder than 90% of the other vehicles on the road under light to medium acceleration...at full throttle she's LOUD. Almost too loud, IMO.

I feel for you Joe. If you've been scanning the related threads around here, you'll see my avatar all through them. I desperately tried to get a feel for what direction to go, but this is such a subjective decision. I thought just replacing the center muffler with an X-pipe was too quiet, while xenophobe thinks it's on the edge of too loud. We're both right, but his advice to take small steps is probably pretty sound. I finally just had to start trying things, and I may not be done yet.
If you've got a good exhaust guy (and it sounds like you do) just keep fine tuning 'till you get what you want. Just don't throw anything away.
Good luck.

Well, the OP wanted a deep idle rumble, and I just don't think the 4 or 4.2 motors have enough displacement for that. Idle and coasting speeds my change wasn't noticeable, but under moderate acceleration with the top down, it's louder than a stock 5.0 GT riding along side of you.
I really think I need someone to drive my car so I can hear how others would for some perspective.
