extended warranties
I see some sellers offering 100K warranties. Do you guys know if these are Jaguar warranties or third party? Does Jag offer their own extended warranty?
I ask because I've not heard good things about third party warranties and I need one which will transfer with me moving state to state.
Thanks much.

RE: extended warranties
They are 3rd party.
Here is one that I have on my XK8.
www.warrantyadminservices.com
If it is not used for the life of the warranty, they refund $1500 of the initial outlay.

RE: extended warranties
I bought a 36 month 42,000 mile warranty yesterday for my 99 XK8. In researching I found that some companies do not cover Jaguar or an XK8. I am low mileage at about 38,000.
On Friday I purchased a 2005 Vanden Plas. It was a 1 owner fleet car with 37,000. I bought the Jaguar extended warranty for it.
Then and I am positive most XK8 owners feel the same way......I love this car and yet it can be a real b*#@h with some of it's quirks. I did not have the confidence in the car to keep it and the tensioner issue was always there. I could have been proactive and replaced them or for the same cost I got the warranty and made sure it was in there. 30 days or1,000 waiting period and I am good.
What it did for me emotionally is that I am now committed to this car and that is what I needed. I truly think this is one of the best looking and driving cars of all time.
Now I am a lucky guy to have the Vanden Plas and the XK8. For the purchase pricing these days I think that they are high value buys.

RE: extended warranties
I forgot to mention something important. I bought my son a low mileage 2002 Mini Cooper and got a good deal from the dealer. 21,000 miles. I resisted the finance people in buying an extended warranty(3rd party). I finally relented and bought a Platinum warranty for 3 years and 45,000 miles for about $2,000.
At 29,000 miles the car just stopped moving on him in an intersection. Still ran but would not move. I had it towed in to the dealer(Warranty Paid). The CVT transmissions in 2002 and 2003 Minis fail quite regularly and if I had researched I would have found that before purchase.
Anyway they do not repair Mini Transmissions they only replace them at a cost of $7,000. It was done and it cost me $100 for the deductible. I could have used the rental car feature but I did not.
In hindsight it was a great and LUCKY purchase on my part.

RE: extended warranties
I am also mulling over what to do about an extended warranty. The 2005 XKR I just bought with about 16,000 miles is still covered until August 2010 by a Jaguar Select Edition warranty (I verified status with Jaguar and also with the local Jaguar dealer where the car has been serviced).
When I took a partial loan from my credit they offered the Members Choice Mechanical Repair extended warranty. The pricing ranges from about $1,500 to about $3,000, depending on the type of coverage (Silver, Gold, Platinum), the deductible ($0 to $250), and the months/miles that will be covered. I verified that since the car is used, the "clock" starts on the day I bought the car. So a 48 month warranty would overlap with the JagSE warranty for the first 24 months and be the sole warranty once the JagSE expires.
I have had decent past experience with the warranty offered by the credit , the only downside being the need to have a potential repair greenlighted by the warranty company which could waste a day. For two of my past cars where I bought the warranty, the warranty ended up paying for itself due to a few needed repairs. For the last new car I bought (2000 Acura TL) I did NOT go for the extended warranty and it turns out I did not need any repairs so I ended up ahead by passing on it.
I visited the Warranty Administration Services Inc. website and found that the local Jag dealer is one of the shops that they use. However, I did not find any link that would allow me to inquire about pricing or purchase a warranty.
I am sort of torn on what to do. So far, I have done nothing since I figure the JagSE has me pretty fully covered for about the next 2 years. I guess I can wait until I am near the end of the existing warranty and then decide.
