Extended Warranty Question

My Select Edition warranty expires in March. I talked to the dealer today about an extension. It's around $3,500. for 3 years. I've already negociated a bit on this price and I'm trying to figure out if I can go for even more. Anyone know what kind of profit margin the dealer's have built into these prices? My impression is that it's quite a lot. Thanks in advance for your help.

Not really an answer to your question but I would think long and hard before spending several thousand for an extended warranty, especially where the car is so new and very unlikely to have an expense that would be several thousand. I was able to get a mechanical breakdown warranty through my wife's credit union (it is Members Choice Mechanical Breakdown Coverage) and the Platinum level seems to cover virtually everything. I had this coverage on other cars and dealing with them was not bad. For the Jaguar, the cost was $1,500 for 4 years which seems very reasonable.

I had EasyCare before and the price is highly negotiable. You need to bargin down the price. Do not just accept what the dealer is selling you.
What is your odometer reading?
Be sure to check what is covered and what is not covered. Check with FAQ on this forum to see what may need repairs over the next 3 yrs. and make sure most of those expensive items are covered.

Easy Care should be a good choice for you, and they have a number of service plans available. On a Jag, I would suggest going their top level plan due to the complicated mechanical and electrical nature of these cars.
Please note that not all ESP companies are created equal. Never purchase an extended service plan (ESP) from any company that is not fully insured--if they happen to go out of business. Easy Care and other quality companies are fully insured, and will say so in their literature. I also urge you to shop around, as ESP's are a very large part of a dealer's Finance and Insurance (F&I) Department profits. It never hurts to negotiate.
I worked in management & sales at a major car manufacturer's captive finance company for 25 +years, and I always felt better dealing with the manufacturers' ESP programs--versus an outside company. Easy Care was Ford owned--prior to their management purchasing the company in 1999.

I'm trying to find out how much "fat" the dealer has in the price he quoted me...$3,500.. I got him to take off $350. but I want to know if I should ask for even more. He says he has $1,000. profit margin in the warranty. I think he has more than that. I'm trying to find out how much profit he really has so I can negociate. I'm hoping someone on here knows.

After reading this thread I decided to look into getting the Easy Care warranty. what A Joke! I called 4 times and never did get to talk to a "Warranty specialist". you will talk to people who will collect all your personal information then they require you to let a" warranty specialist" call you back. when I refused to give them a number to call me at work, they said the specialist could not call me back. what A SCAM to get your personal info.

I have a $3000 National Auto Care warranty on the 06 and it has paid about $500 out for an ABS sensor replacement so far. My guess is that I will lose money on it but you just never know with a real expensive car. I hate surprises, they always come at bad times, so it is worth it to me. I will say that the warranty company reviewed the dealers diagnosis and rejected the dealers request for a new sensor harness. It was the sensor only and the harness would have been a waste of money that a hapless person with no insurance would have eaten. Scary but was impressed with the knowlege of the warranty inspector. I hate bad diagnosis and wasted resources.

Turns out that the Jaguar dealer I've been going to sells Easy Care but I was told today that Easy Care will not provide a warranty if the original warranty has already expired (?)
I've also spoken with a few different dealers that seem to like the ABCO-based warranty (ABCO is the main company that also handles Easy Care (?)). Even with haggling, they wanted $5000 for a 3 yr/36k warranty for my 2003 XK8 with 72k miles - that's a bumper-to-bumber warranty though with no deductable though.
