Fault Code P1647 on 2000 XKR
P1647 Linear O2 Sensor Control Chip (Bank 2)
My car threw this code about two weeks ago and it runs decently and has not been getting bad fuel economy. I can't see or am having a stupid moment and can't see where the wiring for the left hand side upper sensor wire goes to. I wanted to check the connection and wiring and then see about replacing the sensor if it all checks out.
Where does it go, and if I replace the sensor, how in world do I get a wrench or socket on it?
ANy comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I searched and couldn't find much on this fault code or anything on the replacement process of the upstream O2 sensor.

I think you can reach the upstream 02 sensor from the top of the engine, may have to remove the air pipe and vacuum lines, not to mention the engine cover. If you don't have tiny hands, you may have trouble. Swap bank 1 for bank 2, see if the code follows the relocated sensor to troubleshoot the sensor is the issue.

When I swapped my cats out, I had to transfer the O2 sensors. They were seriously siezed and I broke two O2 sockets on them. I think it would have been even harder to get them out with the cats in the car.
If you do need to take the cats out, here are my instructions. The instructions also indicate where the connectors are (they are hard to reach also, BTW). Enjoy

O2 sensors
I had one of mine go a couple of years ago 2001 XKR at 48K miles. I ended up changing them all bought the Bosch ones from Amazon for $65-75 lower/uppers. Jag dealers sell them for $605/each !!!!
All 4 on the XKR 2001 are heated with the black or grey connectors. I seem to remember the bosch website had the wrong ones for XKR but right ones for XJR i.e all heated.
Yes you need to take out the Cat Converters theres just not enough space + they tend to be really tight (theres a TSB for this problem). While you have the Cats out change the Transmission oil and elec connectors as you have easy access once the cats are removed. Oil + filter Amazon again $30 filers + elec connector + $60 for tranny oil
The O2 sensors are the following Bosch 15626/15627 these are listed on the Bosch web site (for the XJsupercharged) and have the correct plugs. Note top and bottom are heated ones in that years model. Hardest part of taking O2 sensors out is getting to the plugs and undoing the four nuts at the top where it connects to the manifold.
15626 = $66

15627 = $61 on Amazon.

Remember alot of aftermarket products are better than Jaguar parts as technology in the last 10 yrs has come along way. Its always worth shopping around as things like fluids can be found with big discounts and no sales tax on places like Amazon or eBay.
Good luck!!

ok thanks. The car never got that code till I soaked the motor with water cleaning it, dumb yes, then multi rad fluid spills on it fixing octo hoses, so I am ganna check the connections on it first then replace I guess. I did a lot of yanking and pulling on that octo hose replacing it, maybe I did something to the connector for that one that is on the back side of motor in the area of the octo hoses.

I was able to replace that one without removing the cat. Borrowed a open end wrench head that had a 3/8 sq. drive hole. I was set to use the torch but it came out easily.
The hardest part was the plug connection and fishing the new one through. Tie a piece of string to the sensor and pull it out by the plug end, then use the string to lead the new sensor in. A open end wrench will tighten it sufficiently.

Don't know if this helps,I usually cut off the wiring harness flush at the tip of the 02 sensor itself,and then sawzaw off the sensor flush to its nut.
Then remove the nut with my new clearance. I had a car where I had to use a torch and heat the socket cherry red before the Nut/part of sensor came out.
There was a member on here that found a secret access panel for the O2 sensor, and one that made his own access by doing something , been a while, so I forgot.

Are the upstream ones on my 03 the same, meaning you can put this one I found
on either side upstream? The wires on it are the same color as mine also.
This one is identical to mine, the first one listed, the bosch for 78.63. Will it work on the left (drivers?) side upstream?

I replaced my LH upstream (drivers side) o2 last night as I had the code for it. Cleared the code with my Torque app and drove it around for 20 minutes or so last night with no check light. Get in it this morning and BOOM the check light is on again right at start up. I did not have my stuff to test it but ganna have to assume that is my issue again/still as that is my only code I was getting other than the p1000. What the hell. I already cleaned the connectors with electrical contact cleaner. This car gets tiresome at times. Arrrrrg

It does affect the running of the car. The ECM increases the richness of the fuel mixture and could damage the catalyst.
