I took a gamble as I am having my 97 drop head I just bought repainted a "Sable" brown used on the late 60's to very early 70's XKE's. Fell in love with that color as a kid especially when in combo with a tan top and interior and figured here's my chance to have a bit of fun and in a color I love. About a month ago I picked up a mechanically great 97 XK8 (if I can use those words considering it is a Jag) but one that the paint was absolutely shot. As I only paid $3500 for the car I have the luxury of playing with it a bit and sent it off to Tijuana (I live in San Diego) for a $1500 paint job at a shop that does BMW's, Roller's and Bentley's. Yes, such a place does exist and so does the price. They stripped everything off the car and have done the little door ding repairs, a complete primer and then the urethane repaint. I've only seen progress photos thru the first wet sanding but it looks great. I'm not going down there to look due to the border traffic but the guy has picked up my car and will drop it back off sometime next week. I'll post some photos when it gets back up here.

I originally planned on getting a BRG/Tan car, as that in my opinion is quintessentially English. however I found my car and couldn't resist it. Platinum Silver with the full cranberry interior. not only does it look stunning, but it is exceedingly rare as well. never fails to get ooohs and ahhhs from the Jag boys and girls.!
I would love to see the cranberry in a black car as well. maybe a bit much for some peoples taste.

The sable brown does look great! Somehow Padrino it looks better on your XK8 than it did on the Jags that originally came in that color. I wanted BRG/tan but settled for black/taupe for my 2006 coupe. Maybe someday I'll have it resprayed in BRG. If I do, I think I'll go with a BRG that's a bit darker than originally used on the Jags. I once saw an Aston Martin DB7 (in a showroom, when it was a new model) in a really dark BRG and thought it was beautiful. What we used to jokingly call British Racing Black.

Jaguars Marketing Choices
When you look at Jaguars marketing materials and when they put the xk8/r on display they always used basic primary colors, reds blues and greens. I have to agree with Jaguar I think the XK8 looks best in basic primary colors with heavy saturation. A lighter interior as also usually used.

The non-metallic white onyx exterior on my wife's 2006 XK8 has held up extremely well for nearly 15 years now. I cannot obtain the deep luster shine that a dark-colored exterior can, but then again, it does not show dust and dirt after just a 2-mile drive either....
I also tend to favor the quartz and platinum exteriors....
