a few mods planned
Hey guys, I'm planning to make a few changes to my XK. Would love some feedback and any ideas ye might have.
I plan to change the repeaters to crystal ones, remove the bumper strip along the side, fit a chrome mesh grille, chrome surround on tail lamps, spacers on the rear wheels to fill the arches.
It's a 98 XK8, silver. What do ye think? Would these mods suit the car?
Thanks in advance!
Chris

I can't see from your avatar what wheels you have got on there, but IMHO first off you need BIG wheels.
For me the mesh grille from the XKR is a big improvement over the standard XK8 grille, so that's a must have. Chrome surrounds on the tail lamps sounds good, no so sure about removing the bumper strip down the side though.
Either way post some pictures.

I removed my side trim the biggest problem is whether the car has been touched up(rock chips etc..). A lot of body shops will mask off the trim and shoot up to the trim line instead of the whole door. A heat gun works wonders at getting it off and a adhesive remover afterwards. I would start with the front molding first, sometimes it's hard to tell if it's been repainted. Then you will know if it has been resprayed or not, In case you have to remount it use 3M two sided tape available at most auto supply houses.

- change the repeaters to crystal ones - yes, this is a must-do
- remove the bumper strip along the side - yes, looks cleaner
- fit a chrome mesh grille - yes as long as it's not too shiny/vulgar
- chrome surround on tail lamps - can't really see the point, but why not
- spacers on the rear wheels to fill the arches - ok, so long as the tyres don't stick out beyond the arches
