Default Finally got codes read

Intermitten limp mode accompanied with trac/stab lights. Dealer read codes while in default. One code P0121. Dealer said Thottle Body needs replacing. Info on this site says, first check ground wire to ECU, check TB terminal connections and maybe change the gold/tin plugs(99 xk8). The TB was supposedly cleaned last year, by Dealer warranty. Do you guy/gals have further suggestions, and/or order of steps to take? I'm thinking about taking my first trip and would perfer having this fixed .The car has 22,000 miles........I appreciate any thoughts........Mick

You should buy a Code Reader to read and reset codes yourself.

Maybe the Throttle Body was cleaned, but the connectors to the TB may not have been cleaned.

I would disconnect the TB Connectors and clean them with Electrical Contact Spray Cleaner.

Then, With your NEW CODE READER, clear the Codes, and see if the Problem Re-occurs.

Is there any chance you recently have had the battery disconnected for a bit?

Every time that the battery wires get pulled, even this last time when I had some paint buffed, the second run after, I get the same code. Seems my computor hasn't relearned where everything should be and it sees that some parameters are not met so throws that code and goes into limp. I erase the code and there is no return until the battery gets disconnected again and I'm not told.

Someone here posted the need to fully depress the pedal 5 times slowly after a reconnect with the engine off but the ignition on to teach it where the limits are.

Good luck.

+1

Dealer wants to charge you $$$; Paul wants to save you $$$.

It may eventually turn out to need a new TB but common sense to eliminate issues on the 4 connectors and clear the codes first.

This only applies to the 4.2 litre.

Thanks for advice! Battery has not been disconnected since I've owned it 6/11. Will buy code reader(which one?) and clean connectors. I'll report back

Worth scanning this thread:

Plenty of cheap code readers available but some have been reported as having issues with Jaguars.

my suggestion would be to check the throttle body sensor connector, this little bugger will throw several codes even if the connection isnt secure. If it is secure, I would try cleaning it with electra-motive.This can be done without removing the actual throttle body
