Fluid leak at drivers side fuse box?

Maybe someone can help. I have a strange fluid leak that drips through the scanner connector and down the door trim near the hood release. Smells like either 3-in-one oil or hydraulic fluid. Not a major leak but keeps appearing after I wipe it off. Sat in garage for a week and showed up again. This is a convertible but the top operates just fine. I am puzzled.
Thanks,
George

Hi, George, and welcome to the forum.
You have a leak in the hydraulic line that operates the convertible top. This is a well-known and documented problem. It's likely that a previous owner suffered the dread "green shower" where the hydraulic line broke where it attaches at the locking mechanism. A standard fix by the dealer is to splice in a new section of hydraulic hose in the left door pillar area.
You should read through this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=27132 for the information you need to fully understand this problem. There are posts on pages 7 and 8 that speak directly to your problem.
The bad news is that most everyone who has had the spliced lines installed report that they ultimately fail. Replacing the hydraulic line is your best solution, along with installing the pressure reducing valve developed by forum expert Gus Glikas. Read the thread above, you'll learn a lot.
I'm sure others that see this message will have some good advice for you, too.
Good luck!

George - Ed is right on the money. That's how my leak started and eventually the top started to "groan." Have ordered the pressure relief kit (its back ordered) that Gus has extensively worked on and developed. Also need to replace the entire hose which I have not yet started (Gus has a step by step with photos),

You guys are unbelievable. Have been trying to read through the links. Excellent information. I do have an extended warranty that I need to work through first with the dealer to see what they propose. I will let you know. Maybe if it is the connector I can get the entire hose replaced. And then install the pressure relief kit from Gus on my own to hopefully minimize future opportunities for failure. This is our second XKR - my wife reminds me that we had the same problem with the '99 and the extended warranty took care of it. We will see.
Thanks again,
George
